Well as they say...they dont build 'em like they used to...

SOME idiot decided that the rear <main> bearing should be
molded into the plastic TUB on the Whirlpool Duet Front loading
Washing Machine...

the 1/2 of TUB w/ the bearing (part #8) below RETAILS for almost
450 bucks ! <quotes on the net ref. service call repair/parts at
between 600-900 for the repair !>

thank GOD ive got some tools...found the part for 205 on the net
including GROUND shipping (too big to ship via UPS !)

guess what ill be spending my saturday doing....

and btw the washer is just 3 yrs old !

At least it is a mechanical part. Our brand new Kenmore washer died in mid cycle. I called Sears and it took them 3 weeks to come fix it under warranty. It is the last electronic controlled washer I buy. From now on, I'm going with the manual timer models. I'll buy the extra water.

I had to put in a new transmission once on a GE washer once, glad it was under warr.

From what I have been told, about 4 or so years ago, the Whirlpool line wasnt very good.

As each Whirlpool appliance dies, we replace it with LG.
All we have left is the stove. We got ten years out of the washer and dryer. Twelve out of the microwave. Sold the refrigerator while it still worked.

Thats what I do. I buy the cheapest manual high capacity model I can find and after they die in 4-6 years I buy another one. I would have to go look but I think the one we have now is a Roper or something like that. It is four or five years old and the clothes come out clean as can be. I did have to put a pump in it last year but other than that it has been trouble free. Not real sure why a guy needs bells and whistles on something like a washer or dryer - just something else to go wrong. Get the simple model and any Diesel dummy can fix anything that goes wrong until the gearbox goes then throw it away.

friend of mine <nother forum> says his front loader LG is a pos too...
says theyve had repairman out 4 times...

all i can figure is that EVERY front loader is gonna be a problem
because of the way the bearing is loaded (weight pushing DOWN).

buy a top loader !

We've had a Samsung Silvercare set for a few years now, what a great upgrade from the top loaders;tu

The best part is our water bill cut in half, reduced our electric bill and cleans clothes alot better
