Now for tires I agree that it doesn't make more since to pay more for less rubber. Plus try driving thorugh little towns and having a blow out and try to find a tire to fit a rim over 17". You say thats what a spare if for but unless you upgrade that your truck will look like your driving on a flat anyway.

The reason for the higher price is the low production numbers. The manufacturers have to pay for the equipment and operators to make the tires somehow.
