low injector voltage

my 96 f-350 run good for the first second you fire it up but the it goes to only the left bank running it does straighten up from time to time but does go back to missing on the right bank.

Welcome to SDD!

Remove the oil fill cap and smell for burnt wires. You may have a burnt under valve cover harness or loose connection.

thank you i just got in from pulling the valve cover and 1 terminal was totally burnt off on the rear injector harness should i replace the external plug also

Not sure what you mean on the external one...if you mean the one on the main engine harness I think you can only get a repair kit or replace the whole engine harnes which is big bucks. Most just replace the UVC harnesses and the VC gaskets.

well i wasnt too sure but one of the terminals is black i just wanted to do it right instead of half-assing it

If a pin on the external harness is black then you need a repair kit. It doesn't come with the pins and takes a GOOD parts guy to find it in the Ford computer system.

Why why why?

The first step in repairing it should be to find out WHY it's burned.

If you don't fix the cause it will just burn the repair.

Its a common problem in a PSD.
GP load and high injector voltage.
The IDM will shunt itself. So not to burnup.

I'm sorry but I don't speak Acronym, and this makes no sence to me. From what I gather you're saying that some part of the injection system will short it's self out causing wires to burn. Being an Electrical Engineer, I find it hard to believe that even a Mechanical Engineer would design a system like that.

I'm sure glad that my 97 Powerstroke in unusual, because I haven't had any of these common problems.

The IDM (Injector Driver Module) has a fail safe. In the event of a failure (high resistance) it will shunt the bank of injectors off so not to burn itself out.
Connections burn from HEAT (motor/gp's load/corroded ect). THEY BREAK DOWN.
Also 97 (cali/van) happens to be a year that has GPM (glow plug monitoring) system. It has a shunt to watch right/left banks and will set a SEL (service engine lamp) long before a burndown of VC (valve cover) connections. Is your 97 a cali truck?
