Oil filter fiasco

You nailed it, Bushpilot. The actual "weave" of the filter, or pleats, is what gives it integrity. The filter I used seems soft. I took another one out of the box, and applied slight pressure to each end by hand. It didn't take much force and it started to spiral, or turn, if you know what I mean. lesson learned: Wix, Fram, or M/C.

well my experience w/ the napa gold (supposedly made by wix)
had been that they 1 were shorter than to OE filter and 2 they were
putting a plastic TUBE inside 'em to support the filter (no one else
is doing that)

i know the in dash oil pressure gauge is for crap (registers w/ as little
as 6psi & reads no higher)...and i thought i was noticing a delay in
even the 6psi registering.....so no more of those napa gold filters for me !

I'd have to say the filter got twisted by the cap when it was installed... stuck in the retrieval clip maybe?

Anythings possible, I suppose. But it was squished..it almost seems like when it got wet with oil it just let go. When I took it out, it was like a spring. I have a few more of these filters and when a little pressure is put on them they spiral, sort of like a spring. I'm throwing them out. Not worth taking a chance.

According the the luber finer website you need some type of core adapter to use there filters.

Q. Why is the core adapter required? A.The core adapter is required to allow the universal filter element to be installed in the 6.0 PowerStroke housing.

Sounds like they are trying to make the improper filter work rather than making the right one.

Yep. That little widget in the video would solve the problem. It would apparently pre-load the spring to the point where the filter wouldn't crush. They are going in the round file. This is almost as bad as early 2 piece purolator's with the plastic center tube.

man what a freekin' band-aide....seems like the trouble
required to engineer & mfg that clip could have been spent
on using better more stiff filtering media to begin w/.

Well, Bush, have a look at the Amsoil miracle filter. It looks like the ones I have only with fuzz on it.

AHH HA ! and it looks like its one of those that is not as tall as the OE
spec filters...the TOP of the filter w/ its little added "step" looks just
like the shorter WIX filters that were causing delayed pressure delivery...

if i had to bet, id say it probably doesnt have the felt washer on the bottom
either....

And according to them if you run this filter and their oil you can "set it and forget it" for 25,000 miles. Any takers?
