Hey, guys. Anyone here have an oil filter collapse before? I changed my oil and filter on monday, drove the truck maybe 40 miles, and parked. Christmas morning I'm at a convenience store, and when I start the truck to leave there's no oil pressure. :doh: So I pop the cap and the filter has "twisted" and is about 3/4 of an inch shorter than it should be. :eek: Now I have to call my wife and have her fish my old filter out of the trash [which luckily is in a walmart bag] and bring it to me so I can put it in and drive the truck. My thanks to Mrs. F350DRW1:hail . I've had some that were a little shaky, but never had one just fold up like a cheap suit. So I'm hitting wallyworld this a.m. for a new filter. I'm sure the oil will be o.k.

Nope, wasn't a M/C and wasn't installed improperly. Box says Luber Finer. I say its re-packaged garbage. Oh well, you live and learn. :rolleyes:

<qualifier: 6.0L engine oil filter>

dont fault walmart...they sell the 'zact same filters (motorcraft)
as the dealers (and many others) sell...and if you compare the
motorcraft to the fram (while youre in walmart) you'll see they
are the EXACT same filters....one is simply 5 bucks less than the other.

No, not this one. I've been buying Fram and M/C at walmart for years, never a problem. But thanks for letting the cat out of the bag about walmart having cheap stuff. I had no idea. :rolleyes:

It's not unheard of to have a filter come apart when the relief valve in the pump sticks. But to have it cave in is even less common, maybe the center tube collapsed in the filter and allowed the filter to kind of emplode? Usually even when the center tuble collapses its associated with an over pressure problem. Keep an eye on it just in case.

there shouldnt be any center TUBE in the filter....the OE spec filters
are "accordian"/fan-fold weave.

there is a "STAND PIPE" (w/ spring) that the filter slips down over...
