In January the wife and I started looking at alternative vehicles for transportation since the price of fuel is going thru the sky but one thing we agreed on the vehicle must have a engine powered by Diesel with no exceptions.

Mrs.CHP really likes the bmw 335d and have to say it's Diesel powered, has room and is sporty but have to wait till the end of 2008/early '09 to take delivery.

The Excursion although paid for will be kept for the soccer games, towing, etc.

We're staying flexible with our choices for sure,I'm not sure how much the Diesel engine option will be but we're looking for around $7k.

I really like the styling of the 335i/d as a whole ;tu I'll sell the Mustang to get the new car.

get a parts connection if you buy that bmw...theres TONS
of margin in the dealer parts sales.

i used to buy parts for friends thru a connection...and was able
to save 'em 50-75% on OE parts

the older 3 & 7 series used to crack driving lights like MAD (bad
location...or great for rock catching).

i could replace BOTH driving lights for less then the dealer would sell ONE

not a HEADLIGHT issue...FOG/DRIVING light issue....

a few years ago they were mounted low in the bumper
and to the outside edge (where they should be)

they were REAL GLASS...nice...and depending on the
model they were 175 - 300 bucks PER side

amazing to me cause the 3 series cars used the same
lens as the 7 series....but the 7s were almost DOUBLE in cost ;)

I bet i changed out 4 or 6 sets for folks i knew & worked w/.

one of my neighbors has an M3....they wanted 1200 bucks to
do a brake (pad) job on that car...i laughed...said id do it
for 400 in the driveway ;)

Ohhh the fog/driving lamps :D I recall the Marchals on the Mustangs in the 80's,very expensive to acquire today!

I been reading that the premium for the Diesel maybe be around the $2k which isn't too bad compared to the Ford premium cost of the Diesel option.

WOW Bill. This is interesting.

I didn't know BMW even made any of their cars available in a diesel.

Good luck on your car shopping.

Not to be nosey or anything, what would a CHP Mustang like yours bring these days?
I bet there are some out there that would love to have it. Especial those that you know of that own one themselves.
