Oil in the CCV bypass tube???

I was changing my oil the other day and I noticed quite a bit of oil/dust buildup around the frame where I have the tube from the CCV running. There is a low spot and that actually has oil sitting in it. Should I have this much oil coming from the CCV? You can see the "smoke" coming from it when your idling for periods of time and after the oil change the aroma seems a lot stronger of oil as well.

Sounds normal to me.. for the CCV re-route Mod. You may want to relocate the end of the tube ? Or, as some have done.. Route it into the exhaust pipe ??

Fresh oil has a more "Pungent" smell to it, IMO.

I've thought about plumbing it into the exhaust... .

This isn't my first oil change... never noticed the smell as much as we do now.

Just as long as it's normal then I wont worry about it.

Just "In My Opinion" (IMO) Fresh oil smells different than old oil.. thats all.

You are seeing and smelling a lot more than "(fresh/old) oil" coming from the CCV tube out back. It's all sorts of NOx and Sox and particulates and other combustion products from your crank case. It was being shunted back into your air inlet system to burn it up instead of emitting it into the atmosphere... Stuffing it into your exhaust is a nice way to better disperse it, but you are not really eliminating it.

I have it too, and I put a piece of cardboard where I park to catch the drip. If I was full of money I'd buy a CCV filtration system from Racor...designed for the 7.3L.

I park in the garage about every night and I don't have any dripping on the floor. I run the hose all the way back to near the fuel tank and put a low spot in it in hopes it would trap anything that might get in there over the years.

I think I'll find a fitting and get it plumbed in the exhaust, gotta make the wife happy.

I have noticed this same problem on my 7.3 recently. My hose ends on the frame rail near the trans. When sitting in park i see the vapors between the bed and the cab. Also have the oil on the frame. When we were tailgating this weekend the passengers sitting in the bed were not happy Im not sure where to route it to. I think i will dump it by the rear further. Anyone have experience with a home made filter setup thats cheap? I know ive seen one before. I may go to Menards tommarow and work on one!
