South Bend Clutches are the only way to go IMHO :sweet

Get rid of the troublesome dual mass flywheel too.

So... this is the first I've heard about a "dual mass" flywheel. What is it and why is it a bad thing?

EDIT: I read on another site that Ford only used the dual mass type on 99 and older trucks with the 5 spd. Newer trucks with the 6 spd came with a standard type flywheel (what ever that means). How do I tell the difference? I'm confused!

My 04 6.0L had a dual mass in it. Maybe some did and some didn't. Don't know for sure.

Ok, I did a little research on what these dual mass flywheels are. I also looked at google images. Some of these things look like regular flywheels. Guess I'm just going to have to pull it apart and find out. I'll let you know after I pull it. May take me a while as I'll need to buy a tranny jack.

Dual mass have springs in the center, solid ones do not.

If you have a DMFW you will have a solid clutch disc, however if you have springs in the clutch disc then you have a single mass flywheel.

I recently replaced the original clutch in my DD not because the clutch was even near worn after 213k but because of the play in the DMFW.
