Extended Towing Mirrors

What are you guys using for mirrors on the OBS trucks?

I use to have a set of telescoping mounts but they seemed to bounce too much. The telescoping mounts were just a piece of aluminum flat bar that mounted on top of the existing mirror mount.

I now have a set of Universal adjustable strap on towing mirrors but they look like crap and are too small.

I am thinking about bending a piece of aluminum flat bar the same shape as the factory mount and bolting it to the factory mount so it would look like a double mount and extend the mirrors out.

Pardon the crude drawing but this is what I am thinking. The first one is what I use to have and the second is my plan.

Here's what I've got. I like 'em ...someone else here said they're "ugly". - then again, I showed a set of these on a Chevy, not my truck, so maybe it was that they look ugly on a Chevy?

They swing out for towing, they are out far enough I can see around our fifth-wheel when towing just fine. I also like the fact that you can mount those little convex mirrors on the base (Like I have on drivers side), that really helps when merging with traffic -- no blind spots.

I have the same as bressler. If I were to add a set of these to another truck I would move them ahead as far as possible. The factory mounts them too far rearward for best viewing.

Too bad you can't retrofit a set off the 99's on it. I got a set of non retractables that are in excellent condition.

I don't want to drill any holes in the truck and if I did I would still have my factory mirror holes left behind.

I'm using the same mirrors you describe, I like them.

Don't your mirrors vibrate on rough roads? Up here the roads are a bit rough and looking behind when the mirror is shaking gives me a headache.

IIRC your mirrors use the same top holes as ours, but you would still have to drill holes in the bottom of the doors for the lower mounts.

Agreed. Those larger framed mirrors are also a classic place for rust to start on the door skin.
