Anyone have a good write-up on replacing the clutch? I have never had my transmission out before so I don't really have a clue where to start. Most of the removal should be the same as any other rig but there must be a few quirks like how do you remove the gear shift stick?

Mine has started slipping a little when it is cold :( Seems to bite once it warms up a little though :) Hope to make it until spring but time will tell..

The stick comes out by pushing and twisting on the cap where the stick enters the top plate. It is easy and the total affair is a unbolt and bolt up process. The only thing to watch out for is the pilot shaft alignment. Get a clutch tool for this ( a few bucks at most all auto parts stores ). It aligns the clutch plate when you bolt up the clutch to the flywheel. Good Luck and don't over tighten the clutch cover bolts, the will break off.

most quality clutch kits come with an alignment tool so make sure you check the box before you waste a couple bucks on something you dont need.

You can always take it back! LOL

Unless you live in Alaska :D and then you might be miles from the store and spend more on the diesel then the tool! LOL.

Anyways, g'luck w/your endeavors and if you do this yourself make sure you take lots of pics and create your own write up!

well. do you have the conversion flywheel in it? if not then get it. it's a simple job. just a pain to get the tranny in and out. oh yeah take out the shifter(i pulled the rubber boot up and unbolted it) and on the top-passenger side of the tranny there is a bolt. the easiest way I found to take this bolt out is from the topside. and I had to unbolt my exhaust from the downpipe so i could move the downpipe around just enough to get the bolt on that side of the tranny out. the crossmember is easy you should be able to figure that out. you, of course, need to take out the driveshaft before you take out the tranny. oh and make sure you put the throwout bearing in the right way when you put the tranny back in. when you put it in make sure the metal piece that spins on the plastic piece goes towards the flywheel. i put mine in backwards the first time and had to take the tranny back out and turn it around. (thats when the transmission jack broke on me.) that tranny is very heavy with 2 guys putting it in with very little help from a jack. i hope this helps a little. if you have anymore questions just ask

I will be installing a South Bend Con OFE from Bean :sweet

Even heavier with a transfer-case hooked to it. Better to separate them or use two floor jacks and a transmission jack?

either way will be fine but i always seperate the TC from the tranny.it just makes life much easier to wiggle the tranny around especially when you are by yourself like i always am.
