    Smoke upon startup

jrdrag - the bluish white smoke is usually unburned fuel at startup. This is caused by too little heat in the combustion chamber. The glow plug system is designed to provide heat to the combustion chamber but over time and use, the glow plugs and glow plug relay deteriorate and need to be...

    wont start hot

That's awesome Rich. I'm not a professional mechanic, just a doctor and I work on my ranch truck because I enjoy it. I was trying to give the original poster an idea of the amount of time it takes to do the work. I should have qualified it by including the fact that I am not a professional...

Fuel Flow Diagram / Regulator Screen

What I thought was interesting is that the screen is not blocking fuel flow to the injectors.

Fuel Flow Diagram / Regulator Screen

Hey guy's, I stumbled upon this fuel flow diagram for our trucks and I have a question. Look at the fuel system schematic on the link. http://www.nav-international.com.br/frame_master.asp?tipo=powerStroke&pg=manual_i/powerStroke/hs.asp According to the diagram, the screen at the fuel...

    wont start hot

You are the man if you can take the fuel filter housing out, clean it, R&R the IPR, reinstall the fuel filter housing with new fuel lines, prime and start the engine in 15 minutes. My hat's off to you. James

    wont start hot

Both of the suggestions above are good and both need to be done based upon the mileage of your truck. What is happening is that the high pressure oil pump cannot build enough pressure to fire the injectors until the oil cools down enough to lower the viscosity. As the oil heats up, it gets...

    Oil Galley Plug Leak

Joe - I don't have any experience at the galley plugs but can lend a hand if you need one. I live in Garland, TX. I also own an engine hoist if you decide to go that direction. Home phone is 972-240-0842. James

    Coolant Leak at Tranny

Thanks for the input guy's. I found the problem. I have a leak at the neck that finally got bad enough that coolant drips down the block, follows the lip of the oil pan back to the tranny inspection cover and drips out. The leak seals itself up with a warm engine so first thing in the morning...

EBPV and plug in heater cord

The EBPV operation is controled by oil temp and/or water temp and combustion air temp sensors. It definitely helped mine to not function if I plugged it in for a few hours before I started it. It also helps to start the truck and let it idle for a few minutes before you are ready to take off...

    Coolant Leak at Tranny

My truck has developed a small coolant leak at the back of the engine that is dripping from the transmission inspection cover. Is there a freeze plug at the back of the block that could be leaking? Any other ideas? Thanks, James

    Engine Misfire at Operating Temp

Joe - did you get injection circuit faults when you performed a cylinder contribution test? I installed a IDM from my '94 F250 and there was no difference at idle however, I ran the cylinder contribution test twice more and it only faulted cylinder no. 3 this time so you may be on to something...

    Engine Misfire at Operating Temp

This morning it ran better than it has the entire time I've owned it....5 months. It was a cold morning, maybe 28 f and apparently was building a little more injection pressure. I ran a cylinder contribution test and it faulted cylinders 1, 4 and 7. In all of my previous cc tests, it has...

    Engine Misfire at Operating Temp

Mudwhistle, Sounds like you and I have about the same problem. I assumed it was injectors and also assumed that after sending them to Swamp that they would come back "as new", but apparently there is some margin of error possible so I will swap injectors two and three into holes four and...

    Engine Misfire at Operating Temp

Thanks 94! Great suggestion! I'll swap injector holes to see if the faults follow the injectors next weekend. Yes, I did suck out the fuel and oil before installing the new injectors to avoid hydrolock. Now, having said that, apparently someone has previously been in the engine to...

    Engine Misfire at Operating Temp

Hi, my name is James and I'm new to this forum. I've got a problem with my engine that maybe you guys can diagnose. I bought the truck a few months ago and it had a distinct mis most all the way through the RPM range. I've had good luck working on my 94 PSD so I thought I could track...
