I have had an exhast leak on the passenger side of my truck for most of the winter. I crawled under the truck this afternoon to take a look and see if I cant find it and it sounds like it is up by the turbo so I am thining its the up pipe that has the EGR tube connecting to it.

Now my next question is how hard is to remove the turbo and intake to do the delete and should I replace my oil cooler or relocate it?

Thanks

Dave

Egr

I would do the oil cooler and a new egr cooler, International has finally realized that the oil coolers get plugged up first and then fail the egr cooler, as far as the delete I know nothing about it but will tell you the bellow pipe are a ^%$#@ to do in the truck, especailly pick up trucks.

Is there a difference in performance when you delete the EGR, and is there any soot produced since the exhaust is no longer being recycled?

It may haze a little bit more. There is really no performance gain its just eliminating a weak point in the cooling system by eliminating the EGR cooler that can and will spring a leak.

I am planning on the oil cooler as well because it just started dripping last week. I have no doubt that my neighbors will have an enlarged vocabulary when I get to that point in the project.:innocent

I suggest you get the dealership to run a diagnostic to tell you what the EOT and ECT is reading in your truck. I have 123K on my '06 and tech says the temp ranges are just fine so I don't need to swap the oil cooler out.
Since the oil cooler in on top the truck how did you notice it leaking?

Some trucks will gain a bit of exhaust flow (read: turbo spooling) when modding the EGR up-pipe. The '05-'07 trucks up-pipe may have a scoop in that pipe that redirects flow to the EGR cooler. Removing this scoop and blocking the "T" in the up-pipe will help prevent the EGR cooler from rupturing.

Removing the intake and turbo isn't that hard if you have some shade tree skills. If you need the OEM instruction sheets I can point you in the right direction.

I am just using an educated guess because from what I can see from the top that is the side of the engine the oil cooler is on. I am also going to have the intake off to do the EGR delete so instead of having to remove the intake twice I am just going to replace it.

I am open to suggestions on what the oil leak might be other than the oil cooler because I am trying to avoid the dealer right now because we dont have the money to take the truck in and I am trying to do as much as I can on my own.

Its coming down the back of the block and running down the oil pan. I have something going on tonight but I can crawl back under the truck tomorrow night and take another look. What are you thinking it might be?
