    Rotella T6

I'll post up this afternoon and let you know what the dipstick oil looks like as well as the top end oil. It ran for over 40 minutes total while I was draining and filling so there was plenty of time to circulate. Oil on the dipstick stayed clean as could be. I used almost a gallon of new oil...

    Rotella T6

Well, I changed the top end oil out 4 times. It came out black every time. Dipstick oil was clear as could be throughout the whole process. I'm gonna run it a day and suck some more oil out and see what it looks like. Can't dispute the fact the engine is quieter. Might be just the fact it has...

Good! Thanks. Getting ready to change it tomorrow finally. Going to change the top-end oil too just to see. Can't hurt anything. I know there are some differing opinions on it.

Anyone using this exclusively now? Didn't even notice it wasn't the usual T5 stuff till I got home. Any differences noticed at all?

    Air bag use

Well I have towed my 25' NauticStar (about 6500#'s) and my 14' enclosed trialer loaded with furniture for our college student. It handles soooooooo much better on the highway. What a huge difference. Even convinced a contractor friend to install some on his Duramax. He tows a 24' trailer with...

    6spd leaking

Unless I am clueless about something I would for sure plug the hole. I lost an $800 clutch to fuel leaking down the valley into the hole and ruining it. I am getting ready to put another one it and when I pull the tranny it is getting plugged. I assume it is just a vent but why in the world...

2008 F-350 - paddle style mirror to non-power towing mirror.

I put the '08 big mirrors on my '01 which had paddle style mirrors on it. Very easy to do. I love them. Someday, when the prices come down more, I will get the power mirrors with blinkers. Awesome mirrors though. Very big and having two separate mirrors is great for backing/switching lanes. Door...

Using the Garmin GPS in the boat

Well, after some more research I figured out that I still need to spend about $600+ to get one that I can use the Bluecharts for coastal use. The lakes maps will work no problem though. I would eventually get a good, dedicated plotter for the boat but I wanted to get one that was dual use right...

Big Brother and GPS radio/nav systems

I personally think these days that if you are using a device that has location abilities like a GPS/Phone/OnStar etc. that someone, somewhere is storing that info. Data storage is so easy and cheap these days. Just like everything you do online- it's stored; cheaply and easily.

Using the Garmin GPS in the boat

Tail Gunner- you are saving me some cash! Thank you! I have a GPS in the truck already but have been wanting one for marine use too. I figured I would buy one that was useable for both functions but the cheapest I can find is about $600 and up to $1000. I assume you went to Garmin's website for...

    Coolant Filter Kit

Yet another vote for Dieselsite. Great parts and the customer service and shipping speed is top notch! Very happy with every single thing I have purchased from them.

rant NO FISHING in Kalamazoo River

Seems to me with the extremely high unemployment rate in my home state that there would be thousands of folks at the ready to do whatever it takes to get this cleaned up before it gets too far. My mom and sister are down from Michigan right now. They say that work is still very, very hard to...

    Turbo-Master Wastegate controller install question

Did it a few years ago. It's a pain. Watch out for the little hardware pieces as they tend to get dropped and lost. Use dental floss to tie onto them to retrieve them when you DO drop them. I did notice a little bit of a difference. The instructions are good so use them. I agree- you have to...

    Steering Slop Revisited

Tail_Gunner- you went down the same road I'm traveling down right now. The slop really irritates me. I have a complete Energy Suspension poly kit to put in too so that should help tighten up everything else. Who did you get your box from? I think I'm getting a Red Head. $325 with a core.

    Air bag use

Well, after towing light loads and running empty I really am glad I installed these. Rides so much better and handles better too. I actually got to this point because somehow I had the u-bolts on the drivers side loosen up and I lost the very thick, short, bottom leaf on that side. Ford wants...

    Air bag use

Installed my Firestone bags last night. About a 3 hour job. I should have done this years ago. What a difference. I haven't even towed anything yet. Just all around driving they make the truck feel like I thought it should before I bought one. Body roll is reduced. The rear end feels tighter and...

Ever feel you overpaid for a college class?

I don't believe anyone actually said college was "easy". I think the point Tail Gunner had was he paid a lot of money to an institution and sort of felt cheated. I certainly would want more hands on in that type of class. It sounds like it would have been easy to pass the class but I don't think...

Ever feel you overpaid for a college class?

Yes, tons of opportunities for A&P's. That's why I told my kids I would pay for it. There are jobs in Iraq/Afghan right now that are paying friends of mine $130k for A&P work. But even stateside there are jobs all across the country. An A&P will take you you just about anywhere in the world you...

Ever feel you overpaid for a college class?

Tail Gunner- I'm sure you are anxious to finish school. I grew up in Michigan until I joined the Army in '83. I saw myself getting into trouble if I didn't leave and do something. No work if Generous Motors wasn't hiring and I didn't like the cyclic flow of employment my older cousins lived when...

Ever feel you overpaid for a college class?

I do think it is all about the money for the most part. I think being educated is very important but I don't think today's university atmosphere is the best place to get an education anymore. Tail Gunner, I work for Army Fleet Support LLC, an L-3 Company, down here at Fort Rucker. Largest DOD...

Ever feel you overpaid for a college class?

I told both of my kids that I would NOT be paying for 4 years of college for them. You want free college money join the military like I did. I did tell them I would pay for them to go the Aviation College here (2 years) and they could get their A&P. At least I know they are actually learning a...

    Urethane Bushing Kits

Streetsideauto.com had the lowest price I could find. $160 + free shipping for a master kit: Energy Suspension 418124G Hyperflex System Bushing Kit in black (99-04). In stock and reviews say they have very fast shipping. You would need a different number for your 05 though. Every vehicle I have...

    Spring codes

Yea, that would suck. I guess I'll swap out the drivers side tomorrow if I get time and see what I get. I'll measure first. It has leaned drivers side low since I bought 3 or so years ago. I have Cryo rotors and Hawk pads to put on anyways. Oh, and a coolant filtration system, a new water pump...
