How many miles on yer truck?

I didn't see any threads on this in the 6.0 forum, so I thought I'd ask. I've got 76k on my 03 which has been in service for 33 months. Just curious to see how many 6.0's are over the 200k mark.

    Battery voltage

According to my Haynes manual as long as the batteries are 12.5 volts or higher on their own and 9.6 or higher under load they're okay. This may be a dumb question, but are the batteries in the 7.3 (Haynes book only covers 7.3) the same as the 6.0?? Bueller??

    Looking for the best guages

Hey Derrick, welcome to SDD. I've got the BD X-monitor digital guages. A bit spendy, but I like them. As for the K&N, mine works well and I've got the Blackstone reports to prove it. Don't waste money replacing yours unless you've got proof it's bad. :2c

Phone Call You Hate To Get -

Sorry to hear that, Ron. Glad they're okay for the most part.

    changing/draining fuel filter

Have a couple different containers handy when you do the frame mounted filter. It'll run down the frame on the crossmember and it'll drip from right under the filter. You might be able to minimize the damage if you place a couple old towels along the frame. :2c It's been recommended to...

How long do you idle in cold weather??

You've probably got the same one I've got--is it the Ford aftermarket one? Mine idles for 12 minutes also.:thumbs

    Battery voltage

I clean the posts and cable heads every other month, so that shouldn't be the problem. The first time I had to jump start the truck was the day after I installed the cab lights. I was also installing the exhaust at the same time so I couldn't start the truck up and recharge the batteries after...

    2003 6.0 Blues

Some guys have been having problems with the 6.0's, but they generally get worked out the newer the motor. I'd go for the 2006 if your considering it. Hey, how can you say no to a new truck??:thumbs Oh yeah...where are my manners: welcome to SDD! You'll like it here.

    Battery voltage

I've looked at a few other threads, but didn't know if the voltage info is different from 6.0's and 7.3's. Both batteries were at 12.21 volts after sitting for 15 hours. Both batt's were 11.79 volts immediately after start. Alternator at 12.11 volts after start. Alternator at 13.79...

    Manual to Power mirrors

When I bought my X it had the powered paddle mirrors on it. The dealer installed the TT mirrors with lights and power as part of the purchase agreement. It was a simple process to remove the paddles and install the TT's. Used the same controls in the cab, everything just plugged right in, to...

Running board lights on an Excursion

You smart folks correct me if I'm wrong here, but I'd think you could connect the wire from the new running board lights to the brown wire on the headlight switch assembly...the exact same thing I did when installing the cab clearance lamps. When the running lights are on, your new running board...

    need help

I've been having this issue when I DON'T plug it in at night. Overnight temps typically high 20's, change both fuel filters every 15k, use torque wrench to tighten fuel filter caps, running Amsoil HDD 5W30 synthetic, anything else? If I don't plug it in, it sounds like a monster truck idling...

    Help with weird occurance

I had the same problem with the dipstick--it only cost about $17 for a new one if my memory serves correctly. It's almost worth buying two and keeping one in reserve in the garage.

    MPG

Whatabudro is right on the $$$. As far as the most difference in MPG? Well, the biggest difference I saw was with the tuner. But the difference was DOWN since the extra power was soooo sweeeeet!!:sweet FWIW, I installed the tuner a year BEFORE the exhaust and I had some problems with the...

    Out of Fuel

After my overhead reads 0, I've got at least 40 miles left (I know cuz I missed an exit on a desolate stretch of turnpike). Anyhow, the way I see it, there's really no excuse for running out of fuel, especially in an X with 44 gallons. Know what I mean?:drive

    Prodigy Brake Controller placement?

I've got mine mounted directly below that cubby. Before you mount it, though, think ahead to future locations for gauges, GPS's, or any other goodies you'd like to mount so you can make it make sense from the beginning. I liked keeping the cubby open for sunglasses and pens and other stuff.:sweet

    egt and boost guages

I know it's tempting to do a whole bunch of other mods first, but start with the gauges. Even if you don't plan on doing ANY mods, do the gauges, especially if you're towing. They'll give you a good idea how your truck performs stock so if you do any mods, you'll know how the mod affected...

    Bypass Oil Filters

I think those are the key words. I bought the Amsoil and like it, but I just put it on so I don't have any quantifiable proof of how well it does or does not work. Time and Blackstone will tell how successful it is--and nothing else. I don't think it makes sense knocking products that other...
