Thinking of going to the "dark side"

I've got little kids, too, so I understand what you're saying. However, buying a new truck isn't much of an insurance policy, IMO. You could very easily have the same problems on a different truck--regardless of manufacturer. I'd run this problem to the ground before giving up a truck that...

Bypass filter blow out, left stranded 3 times!

I installed the Oilguard today on the truck. Man was that easy. No oil leaks or anything, so I'm a happy camper. Hopefully this one will hold out better than the last one. -popcorn

That's terrible. My thoughts and prayers are with that family.:(

    Latest recall results.. 06E17

Make sure you include fuel economy info on your follow up report. That's always a big deal. I had this flash done on Feb 22--06E17--and the truck is more gutless than it ever was and fuel economy is down the toilet. I was getting a few EGR codes before I shipped my SCMT back for updating, so...

Oil smell in cabin after highway driving--ideas?

According to a few (validity unknown) websites I searched last night, the 7.3 has a cabin filter, but not the 6.0. It's a nice day outside so I'm going to go poke my head around and see what I can break....er...find.

PTO idle up mod - 2003 Excursion

That's great news. What type of connection did you use on the PCM Harness? There's a few of us trying to figure something out, so please shed light on the subject! :hail Just sent you a PM.

Oil smell in cabin after highway driving--ideas?

I don't think it has a cabin air filter; if it does, I'm not finding it on my DVD or anywhere else.

    check out my latest project.

Nice work. I assume you used a scroll saw? What brand? I've got a Dremel brand and it works nice, although I've never done anything that fancy.:hail

Oil smell in cabin after highway driving--ideas?

Is the CCV mod just for 7.3's? Either way, I haven't done it to my truck.

Oil smell in cabin after highway driving--ideas?

After driving the truck on the highway, particularly after pulling a load, I get a relatively strong smell of oil in the cab once I come to a complete stop. I don't appear to have any oil leaks, but the smell is definately hot oil. -If you remember my post from a couple months ago, I had a...

    Warrenty Problem?

As long as they haven't voided the warranty already, find a new dealer. My dealer isn't really "mod" friendly, but they replaced my turbo under warranty knowing I use a programmer.

    Storage for the Ex?

I've been meaning to take pictures of it since it's only about a month old. Your post motivated me to get it done. :hail

    Storage for the Ex?

I had the same dilemma, so here is what I built: I covered it with automotive carpet at Walmart ($8). The drawers and storage bin on the left are sprayed with the same stuff used to seal pick up beds, so they will hold liquid if some is spilled. The tray on the left side is for...

Bypass filter blow out, left stranded 3 times!

The situation is resolved. Amsoil is refunding my money for the bypass filter kit, both of the filters I used on it, and all the shipping I paid to return it to Amsoil and the original shipping to get it all shipped out to me, to include shipping charges on the oil. I had originally asked to...

    changing oil

No. Diesel oil is not regular oil. Some smart guys will chime in on the specifics, but diesel oil is different and labeled as such. I use Amsoil synthetic 5W30 year round and it's worked well so far--quieter operation, smoother starts, and slightly better MPG's although that last one is hard to...

    help with mpg

I've been checking the pumps during fillups (and even doing drive-by's just to check  ) and none of the pumps in MA or CT have a cetane rating listed. I just ordered some Stanadyne so hopefully that'll help.

    dealer reflash

FWIW, every time my truck gets flashed I have to return my SCMT to get it update. Costs $12 for shipping, but it's a pain to run stock while SC has it.

PTO idle up mod - 2003 Excursion

Sorry, I should've mentioned that. I tried with the emergency brake, without the emergency brake, even cleared out all the tools and shut the hood just in case that would make a difference (like the remote start--won't start with the hood open). I didn't touch the brake or the accelerator...

PTO idle up mod - 2003 Excursion

I hooked up this mod this afternoon on my truck and it did NOT work. I followed the instructions that Scott posted a few weeks back. I waited to drill the hole in the dash for the switch until after I checked to see if it worked....now I'm glad I waited. I did not have a perfect plug to...

What RV forum do you subscribe to?

That's about the only reason I visit the RV forum, too. My frustration was rooted in not being able to get information due to all the flaming going on. A couple good sites were listed above that I was able to get good info from. :thanks

    dealer reflash

I second that. I just got the reflash dated late February-ish and it sucks. Turbo won't spool past 20 psi, no acceleration, and the fuel economy? Well, let's just say I think a V10 could get better than what I'm getting right now. Once my SCMT gets back from Superchips I'm fixing the...

    Water in Fuel

This is the plug that was mentioned. I just installed it last week and it worked great. The problem with the stock plug is that it's hard to hold onto that thing once the flow of fuel starts gushing. I normally had to fish it out from the bottom of the container. As far as drain frequency...

    Water in Fuel

Look on the inside of the drivers side frame rail directly beneath the drivers seat. You'll see the HFCM plug facing the front driveshaft. The plug takes a 6mm hex. The driveshaft is right in the way, so you'll have to crook your arm up and over it to avoid getting a diesel bath when you drain...

Driver power seat/power pedals not working

Well, I bought a new fuse for the drivers seat and....it worked. Don't ask me how that is because I swapped it with a good fuse yesterday and the seat wouldn't work.:dunno Whatever, it's working so I'm a happy camper.
