    Torn between 2 tires

JL- PLEASE!!! do me a favor. Tell GY they need to make the Silent armor in a 275/65R20 E and in a 285/65R20E!!!!! and quick. Like I said, I saw a set of Silent armors on a county work truck the other day on site and they were SWEET!!!! I really want to try a set if/when they are avail in the...

    Torn between 2 tires

I agree with you chief, but money is tight. Reason I'm even looking at taking 35's off is b/c of fuel prices... so I don't have a lot of money to throw expensive "econo" tires on. Figure let me give these so called bad AT/S's a try. Sell my Procomps... see what downsizing tires does to my MPG's...

    Torn between 2 tires

Well I'm getting my AT/S's put on this week sometime. For the price I can't argue. My 2nd choice was Toyo Open Country A/T's, but they were like $248. Other than the AT/S and the Toyo.... I didn't find anything else I liked in 275/65R20 Load range E.

    Torn between 2 tires

I've never heard of that GY rumor. The tires supporting the truck have to be of enough load #'s. Each tire is different as far as max load and C, D, or E load range also.

    Torn between 2 tires

Got to see a set of Silent armors in person today...wow. nice tire. I really want a set in either 275 or 285. That would be THE tire... but not an option.

    Torn between 2 tires

Good Rant JL, but that doesn't help me lol. I'm not the average consumer. I watch the tech balance them on a Hunter 9700 force balancer, I torque my lug nuts to spec in correct bolt pattern (no impacts, or torque stix) and check my air pressure 1x week in the AM before leaving for work for...

    Torn between 2 tires

JR- I'd say not much loss, maybe gain. Ok guys... The BFG's are WAY to expensive, and designed in 1986, no offesne but I found a lot of complaints about the tire being over priced for what it is. So I'm down to the OEM AT/S or the Toyo Open Country AT. Can't find any pricing on the...

    Torn between 2 tires

Not much to pick from in the 20" rim size for our trucks close to stock size. I thought there would be more to pick from. Looks like 18's have much more to pick from. Here are my options as I've found: -OEM Wrangler AT/S -Michelin LTX AT2 -Toyo open country AT -285/65 BFG AT KO Seems...

SRA is no longer avail in the OEM size either. What about other brands?

    Torn between 2 tires

So what would you guys recomend in place of the AT/S's???

GD it!!! I thought I picked a good set of tires!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dogman- I'm going to Ford Quick Lane on North FL Ave, it's just north of Busch Blvd on the east side. Guys there have been excellent so far. I've had them do a flat, alignment and force balance a set of 35" Procomp Xtremes. Prices are also very good. But more importantly, the work is done...

    Torn between 2 tires

Honestly, what makes it such a "bad" tire???

    Torn between 2 tires

I'd love to get a set of Silent Armors in the OEM 275/65R20 size, but they don't offer it!!! Is that size coming out soon?

GD it!!! I thought I picked a good set of tires!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can believe it. Most shops stink at balancing large tires in general. my local 4x4 shop couldn't balance my 35" Procomps. Horrible vibes. and when I went back and told them they said those tires balanced out perfect and this and that. I asked if they had a force balancer and they looked...

    Torn between 2 tires

I'm refering to MPG mileage, not wear. In other words I don't want to have tires that give me worse MPG's than the OEM tires. And I work on construction sites and do light off-road on the weekends for fun and camping.. so a SR/A is kind of out of the picture. But I totally agree with you about...

    Torn between 2 tires

I'm just having an issue with the sticker shock. They're more than 2x's the price of OEM Wranglers. Like I said... I think I could go further off-road with OEM tires and a detroit locker and financially be the same as just buying BFG's. I took my truck off-road 1x when it was a few months old...

Find the module under the dash, should have the code on it.

    Torn between 2 tires

OEM Goodyears or 285/65 BFG AT KO's. Price and mileage are the determining factors. The BFG's are outrageously expensive. With the money I save vs buying OEM tires I can buy a Detroit locker. Which is what I'm probably going to do.

    More Mpg?

Full Topper will make mileage worse. It makes aerodynamics WORSE and it's heavy. I'd go with tailgate up, or tonneau cover.

    Tire help, BFG or GoodYear

I spend a fair amount of time in sand and in dirt if you will. construction sites really. and trails to go camping and hunting. I want a notch or two better than stock when off the pavement.

    Tire help, BFG or GoodYear

chpmustang- I looked into the BFG's and they have a very high, highest I've seen of max load for a tire. At tirerack they even have a warning popping up stating the hight max load may give a rough ride and you have been warned. that is probably why they are hard to balance... that is one reason...

    Tire help, BFG or GoodYear

I looked into the michelins, not many sizes avail for 20" wheels... doh. My only 2 options are the BFG's in 285 or the 305 GY's. Leaning more toward the BFG's b/c they are only 1 size over stock vs like 2 or 3 sizes over. And my 8.5" rim falls almost in the middle of the BFG rim Range vs the...

    Tire help, BFG or GoodYear

The goodyears have 1/32" more tread and are 1 pound lighter. Uh, decisions. I have heard of a lot of people complain about balancing the BFG's but that all depends on the balancing machine and such. I won't put tires on my vehicles unless I personally witness them balance it on a Hunter 9700...

Riding on just the out side dual

I'm in the same boat as you cheif. I'm in the process of ridding my 71 pound 35x12.50's and going to something like a 64 pound 285/65 BFG A/T or a 63 pound 305/60 GoodYear wrangler.

    Tire help, BFG or GoodYear

seems to be a lot of love for the BFG's... taller skinnier of the 2 options.
