    New Parts on the way!!

Thanks! I just bought the old style boots from Dieselsite last night- I am not convinced still that I need that 6 intercooler. Sounds to me like you got a good deal on yours though.

    what radio to get?

I went with a Kenwood. At $140 including harness, adapter etc it is hard to compete against a rebuilt / repaired $200-$250 Ford unit. I could not find my particular unit anyhow...will keep you posted on results -- am replacing a dorked up headlamp switch while the dash is apart.

    Just pondering an idea

My opinion? You need to start with the same amount of fuel each time (e.g. "full") and drive a reasonable distance (10s if not 100s of miles) and refill to that same amount. So you need to know how much fuel added and how many miles driven. Devil is in the details.:D I always use full tank to...

    what radio to get?

I imagine it is illegal in the same places headsets are illegal but I have to tell ya, they filter the low freq noise and make the factory radio (at least talk/news) a lot easier to understand. You can talk with 'em on too, just knocks out the really loud and the low freq. I think it is safer on...

    Just pondering an idea

:lmao:lmao:lmao BTW there is a way to recalibrate the speedo up to something like 4 times, IIRC. I think I read it on a TransferFlow (Aux fuel tank company) instruction sheet. But I like the GPS route anyhow. It is certainly accurate 'nuff. Nerd alert: dizzy:dizzy:dizzy Random thoughts...

    Coolant Temp sender/gauge question

Just fyi, I put the coolant temp gauge on a spare port on my filter housing. That is about 8 or 10" of hose from the water pump so it might read a degree lower than actual but very convenient -- drilled a hole thru the AFE box and screwed the rtd into the port that was hitting the AFE box...

    New Parts on the way!!

Good Christmas indeed!!! Looks like a fun weekend ahead too. ....When I put my Fumoto on about 5 y ago I was dubious about it, but for road driving absolutely no issue and for off-road in fields and not over major brush or stick ups, no problems either. It is further up then most of your sway...

    what radio to get?

Good suggestion, Iracemine, thanks, & your follow-on answer made even more sense to me, since I'm sort of a cheapskate. But what is this tape converter thingy? Got a model or suggestion? My broken unit still has an ok radio, just the cd changer is dorked up; but no cassette. Also, my...

    Spreading salt in Bangor Michigan

I had the same experience in Lexington KY in late 80's, after a big snowfall. Coming from MN and upstate NY, I couldn't believe my eyes. I don't think their spreader broke though -- that was it!!! The place was shut down for a week. It was snow, not ice.

    Tow speed/rpm

Well, after 2012 miles I can say my truck likes it as low rpm as I can get away with w/o lugging the tranny. 8 mpg was typical, could get 8.5 downhill with wind in OD. I really wish I had replaced the boots on the intercooler when I replaced all the other boots, since one decided it was time to...

    what radio to get?

My CD changer stopped changing...and I had a fun time removing the stock system (6 cd changer/radio). Someone had cobbed the clips so I removed the dash to get out. Now that it is out I am looking for ideas on what to replace it with: 1. another just like it, but with some aux input for ipod...

    Winter Radiator Cover

Here's what Alaska Tent quoted me a year ago, fyi: The winter front will cost $45, the parts to install it will be approximately $11, and shipping will be approximately $14, I think, as the USPS is changing their rates January 4th. The bug screen will be $25 and the parts to install it will...

    Tow speed/rpm

Thanks guys!!! Much appreciated. So 2400 +/- is the majic rpm under load--for peak hp? I get the (no) OD part and really like 1800-1900rpm when cruising with heavy loads or no loads. Guess I'll go find out what speed I get @2400 and high/no OD and 2nd/no OD. I'm debating on freeway back or...

    Tow speed/rpm

Am going to get a large-ish box trailer: 21'L x 8'w x 12'h (+4' of trailer tongue). It (bumper) hitch sits 22" off ground and I imagine it is a great bug catcher in warmer weather. It will have only a few thousand pounds of equipment in it, and I believe it is only rated at 6600lbs so it isn't...

    CCV Fumes............

My CCV plume out the back was always more than I thought it "should" be -- but it's a lot of water vapor so it looks awful in cold weather. Regardless, I pulled the bypass line and put a Raycor filter on it. No more drips or stink.

    New engine oil change intervals?

If you want to extend the oil service beyond 5k, you should consider oil analysis. Do it on "old" oil before a change and see what the lab analysis says. Blackstone is what I have used regularly for years. I think 10k is not much of a problem if you do a lot of easy running down the hiway...but...

    Question Oil Consumption

Well, you could use a CCV filter and capture the blowby, and run it back to your engine. That's what I do. That will eliminate one oil loss path...Just an idea.

    Preparing for winter!

and while you're buying stuff ... an auxiliary idle control unit is really handy ( (ebay, $100-$150); Use the charge protect mode or just set it to 1250 rpm or so. You'd be surprised -- even above 0 these engines don't every warm up to "normal operating temp" at low idle...maybe you're exhaust...

    Turbo-Master Wastegate controller install question

I put it in when I replaced my turbo. (otherwise I'm just not that patient) Adjusted it per instructions. Later, it a boost gauge installed, I could tweak a bit more...but really not much - so instructions worked good. I also like the quicker response.
