    I have heard mine make a backfire noise too. same thing I would rev the engine up in neutral and it would do it just once in awhile. I need a place to purchase the resistor for the idm mod and I'm going to do mine. It does not look that hard.

    Not sure what the the updated look like look like. Have you taken it apart, does it look like the one in the picture, have you checked your fuel pressure to see if your getting 65 to 75 already? I did this mod cause I was only hitting 40 at idle. and yes it is the IH navistar.
