Help Needed cold start and 6.0 problems

I wouldn't want to throw it out either. $200 is a lot of money in oil. 4 gallon jugs of Rotella T-6 5W-40 would go for around 80 bucks. It is synthetic and requires a 5K mile change out. No need to change the oil filter, would it be too radical to drain the current oil, save it (500 miles...

Help Needed cold start and 6.0 problems

I agree went 5W-40 and didn't look back. Truck likes it alot. It has been just below 0 degrees farenheit here in New Hamsphire over the last few days. No issues starting here. Have you done a fuel pressure spring upgrade?

I am heavily active on Dog and Trailer camping forum and Outbackers.com I have checked out RV.net before but ran in to a lot of trolls. Eric

Question-Is Rev-X snake oil or does it solve stiction?

There is a new additive that is getting some very good reviews, is far cheaper and supposedly does a better job in helping the injectors. It is by Arcoil and is called AR9100-Nanoborate Friction Modifier. I don't know a lot about it but have been reading on several Diesel forums about it and...

So..you're looking to get an RV?!

Here is some helpful hints for those that may be looking into getting Travel Trailer, Fifth Wheel or RV in general. i put this together for a freind that was living vicariously through our family and he decided to take the plunge. The problem was he had never been camping. Even in a tent! So it...

    2004 6.0 troubles

Also check the clamp on the positive terminal, driverside battery, at the auxillary terminal post (Best way I can describe it). I had some power issues crop up at the same time I had a HPOP STC failure. Made things interesting. The Mechanic working on my truck found that the clamp was...

    Overheat condition

I understand that! One thing is for sure. These trucks like to be paid attention to. They get jealous and lonely quick. ...Kinda reminds me of my wife... yeeeaaahh.. Anyway, I would see about those codes and something to monitor the engine with. Check around you may find someone that has...

    Overheat condition

Yeah 1800 is a bit high. My F350 automatically goes to 1K from idle after 1 minute of sitting still, in park, no pedals touched. I don't know how long it will do that, probably until it reaches NOT (Normal Operating Temperature) but I haven't tested it, or asked that question. I think I will...

    Overheat condition

Not a problem! We help each other out! Big Joe makes a good point as well! Some times those cool to have mods aren't all that. It was recommended to me by a Deisel Master Mechanic to not let the truck idle for more than 5 miuntes. I did not bother to ask him why specifically. He said...

    Overheat condition

I understand fully! You're describing me! I tow a 12K GVW 5VR myself. She is packed away for the winter but I am ready to go now! Anyway...I digress! I bought an Edge Insight Juice With Attitude from a camping friend. He upgrades to a Color touch Screen Edge. I do not use the settings...

    Overheat condition

An almost indispensable tool is a scan guage, Edge Insight, or like item to monitor the critical temps and pressures of your engine. It can be 150.00 to 300.00 or more depending on what you get, but knowing what codes (if any) are being thrown, and monitoring ECT, EOT, Boost, Load, EGT after...

    Overheat condition

Knowing the temperature would help. Cavitating water pump, insufficient flow in the coolant system, stuck closed thermostat could allow coolant in an area of the engine which is getting hot, to vaporize, pressurizing the degass bottle. I am stabbing in the dark though. Did you notice if your fan...

Recreational vehicles, pushers, travel trailers & camping section

We have enjoyed both very much so far. Nothing more than normal maintenance items have come up for us. Being manufactured items there will always be something that may come up. I would highly suggest logging into Outbackers.com. You will get a cross section of people with different units...

05 6L losing coolant from degas cap AGAIN!!

I'll give just about anything a shot once. If I liked it, I'll do it again. BUT in this case..... Since I have never dug into an engine like this, nor do I profess to be Diesel Mechanic....I'll watch and moan about the money.... :coffee

05 6L losing coolant from degas cap AGAIN!!

Just checked my Local Ford Dealer. 3,500.00, Labor and parts for Head gaskets. That is better than 9-12K but still...Sheesh! Eric

No boost, lurches and lots of smoke

Stuck? If it isn't or not close to it, I would be surprised! I bet you see a significant difference as long as the valve has not failed. Looks like you need the o rings, but maybe that's all and you'll be out of your problem for chump change! It is possible I guess in certain circumstances...

trying to narrow down an issue.

No boost, lurches and lots of smoke

Sounds a lot like what happened to me ijn October 2010. My EGR Valve failed/was blocked to a point where the valve could not move or only could move a very Little bit. There may be another issue but this check will take you about 30 minutes. You will need a spray can of carburater...
