    tranny cooler

I stayed with the initial design of my 99, which has a separate cooler in front of the radiator. I did replace the stock one with one from a V-10 automatic as it is 50% bigger than the stock cooler, and bolts right in. You will have to bend the supply/return lines a little, but it still looks...

    Brakes quiting, help

It sounds like the ABS is not working correctly. Does the ABS light come on when you first start the truck? (To verify that the bulb is not burnt out) If it does, and then goes out, you will have to pull the codes to see if any are set. Anyway, it's a start.......

    Shudder during braking

2000 had rear rotors and the ABS would have thrown an ABS light on the dash. (I just went through replacing the rear ABS sensor....Ranks as one of the easiest $20 repairs I've done in a long time...) The rear rotors also have the parking brakes inside the small drum of the rotor. I hope that...

    Shudder during braking

Another thing to be careful of is lug nut torque and proper torque patterns. These rotors can actually warp because of improper torque. You must use a torque wrench when tightening the lug nuts... Clean the rust under the rotor hub and then retorque..

Talk about the 7.3L CPS Here!

A dirty IPR can and will cause a shutter. From what I understand, a CPS will either work or not work. I've had to clean my IPR a couple of times, and afterward, the truck runs great......

    Dealer Prices

Write them back and tell them you really appreciated the comic relief. Nothing better that a good laugh in the middle of the day..... :D THEN, say something like, "OK, now that the funnin's over, how much is [put whatever you want here]" ...I always like to hear their reaction.... OR, ask...

    Dually Tire Recomendations.....

What are you running now, what have you run and how do you rate them. I'm looking at LT235-85-16 sizes, with the usual criteria.... Mileage, traction, cost, ride, etc. Not really worried about snow, and not much off road, although I do not want a straight 'hi-way' type of tire. :thanks

    Tranny temps

Ford says that the max sustained is 230 with a temp spike of 248, but I've also seen a general rule as follows: 175o= 100,000+ miles, 190o= 90,000 miles, 210o (Pressure Drops) = 55,000 miles, 230o (Valves Stick) = 25,000 miles 250o (Varnish Forms) = 17,000 miles, 270o (Seals & Clutches Burn) =...

    Maybe Trans problem

OOPS :sorry My bad....... Can't believe I bounced all around that without directly saying it was the TQ.... :dunno BTW, because I had the external filter and a trans temp gauge, I knew that there was a problem before it totally broke. The crap from the disentigrating TQ started clogging...

    Maybe Trans problem

Unfortunately, that is "normal" for that year transmission. It's the infamous "marbles-in-a-can" sound, and rather loud at that. Unless it's slipping or otherwise causing a problem, it's probably OK to drive. Now, that being said, I would add a spin-on external filter prior to the...

    finally runnin on home brew!

KEWL....... Last night I scored an old water heater and a 150 GAL tank. The tank was used for fuel oil so cleaning it shouldn't be much of an effort, considering the dilution factor. I have yet to decide to use it for finished bio or for initial storage of unprocessed. REally glad to see the...

    Did some more projects today....

I added an upgrade harness that uses the factory relay to supply direct voltage to the headlamps. It does make a difference, but the problem I have is that the 80 watt lights fry the headlight sockets. What a PITA..... I'd luv to find some sockets that can handle the power..........

    Trans Cooler

Well, Greene Ford in Gainesville is also pretty good on prices. I did the V-10 cooler switch when I had a torque converter self destruct. (literally) I did have an additional external filter (spin on type) that probably saved the rest of my transmission. When the torque converter let go, it...

    fan removal tools

Initially, mine slipped too, so I cleaned the pulley just to make sure all the oil/grease/dirt was gone. I also cleaned the strap.... Oh, then I remembered that the large clutch assembly has a right-hand thread and must be turned counter-clockwise to remove.

    fan removal tools

I bought this from Sears http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?BV_UseBVCookie=Yes&vertical=TOOL&pid=00945560000 and used it to hold the pulley. Sure was a lot cheaper than the other tools....

Anyone using the 7.3 coolant filter kit from Bob Riley...

Not really too bad......The easiest and fastest way is to remove the battery, which should take all of a minute or so. I don't know how it would work with the later year combo air box/battery holder...(my truck has the early 99 air box, with a separate battery tray.)

Anyone using the 7.3 coolant filter kit from Bob Riley...

Pictures..finally.... Finally....here are the pictures of my installation. At the time these were taken, I was still using the regular coolant, prior to the Evans installation. :sweet

    IPR pic

Yup, sounds like the IPR. With my truck, when it gets dirty, the surge is most pronounced between 1600 and 1900, but still occurs at all speeds. It is less pronounced under load or accelerating. They can be easily cleaned, and you can do it in about 30 minutes or so. Let me know if you...

Anyone using the 7.3 coolant filter kit from Bob Riley...

I've been using the filter for a couple of years. When I switched to Evans, the antifreeze that I drained out was real clean, and it had a lot of miles on it, probably over 30K. I mounted the filter up on the radiator support crossover, next to the battery. (99.5 and up might not work since I...

    Weird thing happened Sunday

So what's the latest?? If still no start, put a scanner on it and check your HP oil pressure. It must be 500 PSI or better to fire the injectors. If it doesn't, you'll probably need to pull the valve covers to check for a stuck injector. Turn over the engine while checking the oil exhause on...

    Weird thing happened Sunday

Yep, same here. I was fortuntate that one shorted a cell right after I tried recharging. I just thought that they ran down, but they were shot. If you got 5 years, you got 2 'freebie' years (as an average) Your starter will also appreciate it. Low or old batteries are hard on starters.

    18K Mod & Oil Leak

I'm not too fond of either mod as it ups the HP oil pressure, and in some cases can exceed the design limits of several components, including the injectors. I guess it's like any other mod, you play, you pay. And 'yes', the mod could have caused this problem.

    changing glowplugs

Once you break the glow plug loose, I've found a piece of shrink wrap tube to fit over the end of the glow plug will allow you to turn it real easy. It just have to be snug enough to be slightly forced over the end of the glow plug. Makes it real easy to install too.
