Does any know if the is a manual lever to engage the transfer case or to reactivate, I have a Superduty crewcab with shift on the electronic shift
on the fly, put the truck in 4x4 and manualy lock the hub but the four wheel
drive is in 2 wheel with the front hubs locked in. Had a non ford service shop
work on the drive train to install u joints and they said they had to reprogram the transfer case. can any one help thanks

A friend of mine has a 02 SD Crew 4x4 7.3 diesel

he had new joints put in, the transfer case was service, they had to reprogram the transfer case with new prom's never heard of this, anyway
the truck has the front hub manualy locked in,shift of the fly knob to 4 hi
and the truck stay's in 2 wheel drive, someone told him that they might have
disable the transfer case by manualy turning a rod inside the transfer case
to keep it from going into 4 hi, Any Ideas

I'm going to translate the original post to asking if there is a way to change your automatic shift transfer case to a manual shift.

Easily and cost effectively.... NO. period end of story. the automatic shift t-case is configured with a screw driven lead that is mounted parallel to the center line of the vehicle. requiring a twisting motion perpendicular to the center line of the vehicle. It also requires greater than 180°rotation so you can't just have a side to side lever for shifting.

The easiest way to get a manual t-case will be to find one in a junk yard to swap in.

OK, now I understand. This is exactly why I have never owned a ESOF (Electronic Shift On the Fly) vehicle. I can pull the lever and KNOW it is in four wheel drive. I think BJS has a good answer.

Take it to another dealer.

there are a myriad of problems that can cause the ESOF to fail. there is a control module, the motor, and the hub actuators that can all fail yielding no power to the front wheels.

the hub locking is the most common point of failure due to vacuum lines failing.

the motors have been known to fail but usually cleaning the brushes solves that problem.

but it sounds like your dealer went toward the control module. I was not aware that they were programmable I thought they were a non-repairable only replaceable part.

Mine wasen`t working either! the first thing you do is pull the motor off of the transfer case and hook a power wire and a negative wire to the terminals! if it works than it will probably be your 4x4 module under the dash!! I took the motor of my transfer case and put it back on turns out it was just jammed!!! the motor unbolts with with a couple of 10mm bolts I believe! try that first before you get hosed by a mechanic!!!

I think I understand what's being asked...
The Dude is on the right track, but I would do it like this..
use a test light or a logic probe to see if the module powers the range motor... if it powers it and it doesn't work, it's the motor.
