'05 to '06 steering conversion

2 questions for you guys- First, is there a way to change the 05 steering system over to the '06? I am tired of this shimmy when you hit a bump. I read ford's tsb about the problem, and their solution is to tighten down the flow limiting valve on the rack, then turn back 1/32nd turn or something. 2nd solution is to change the steering wheel???? 3rd is to change the damper. I have done all of this, short of changing the steering wheel, which I thought sounded stupid... when I tightened the valve body I blew a hose within a couple of weeks, and lost steering and brakes.(not too cool) Now that is fixed, but the problem remains. it also seems like the rack is puking oil now, so if it needs replacing in the near future, why not with a system that works?

2nd question... is there a way to put the tie rod that hangs down in front of my front diff. up out of the way? What a stupid place for it. As soon as I get into a little snow or mud it starts pushing. can I flip it over to the topside?

Well, there is no "Rack" on a Super Duty. The majority of the time the death wobble is due to improper tow and too much positive caster angle. There is no significant difference in the complete steering system on the 05-07's.

Dyna Trac has a crossover steering conversion that is combines with their free spin kit that moves the steering up higher, CLICKY HERE

You have to have at least 6" of lift to run this system, oh and a big pocket book.

Well whatever you "call it", the steering box that drives the control arm does have a different part number for 06, and the whole system is upgraded per ford. Problem was only on certain 05 models with redundant steering wheel controls, so they say in the tsb.

Like posted above, no big differeced from 0-07 trucks so not sure what your trying to achive. IMO you need to look at your toe AND especially caster angles. Also taking a good look at pitman arm, tie rod ends, track bar and bushings. drag link and steering stabilizer setup.

SOme time "in tolerance" does not work.

You have not stated if you suspension is modified or stock. If it's modified, then there are certain adjustments outside of OE specs that can be made that will help eliminate some wobble issues.

When is comes to suspension tsb's , Fords solution has always been to throw parts at it.

Need more info on your truck to help any further.

I am currently running a 4" lift in the front, springs with geometry correction brackets on track bar and trailing arms. The rear is 2" blocks... everything else is stock. front has rancho shocks, rear has ryde fx shocks. Will a dual damper clear up some of this problem if the caster/camber checks out? I will be putting on 35 x 12.5's in the spring but would like to get the shaking problems solved first, ya know?

Add a dual steering stabilizer kit, that will stop the shaking.
I had the same problem, AKA "Death Wobble" after I installed my 5" Procomp lift and the dual stabilizers took care of it!!!

My steering issue was not as bad as some describe as Death wobble. I did notice that hitting certian bumps the steering wheel would cycle back and forth like crazy. I installed the Fabtech Dirt Logic Dual stabs up front solving my steering problem.

I will suggest you look over everything up front to make sure it's aligned and mounted correctly. I run an ICON kit that is currently sitting at 6" and they DO NOT recommend any drop pitman arm or drop trac bar bracket till I move up to their 7.5" kit!
