I took my truck to have the oil changed as I have every 5000 miles since I got it. The guy from Pro Car Care in Garland comes out from underneath to let me know that my underside is covered in RED transmission fluid that has blown back as if leaking only when moving. He asked if I had had any trouble with the transmission? I said no, but I would be taking it in to the dealer Monday. My question is this, have any of you had this problem? We are supposed to leave on a 2 week vacation Wednesday towing the fifth wheel trailer. Do this sound like it can be fixed in a couple of days?

nope we only leak at teh rear main seal, well its a seep sort of

i would crawl back under and do a real good visual to follow the source, it could be something dumb like the dipstick for the tranny is not seated all the way, DO NOT wash it off before the dealer can look at it.
hope its nothing big

my friend's dad's 05 blew a hole in the transmission you could put your arm up into. He tows a lot with it, but this happened just driving around town not towing anything. Also, the truck only had about 10,000 miles on it when this happened.

Ive lost ZERO fluid and have had ZERO signs of leaking tranny fluid.
As for the whole blow in the case...at best thats unusual and
highly questionable.

theres some leakage on some trucks at the rear main...but some of
that has been attributed to assembly lube (which can be red too...i
DONT know what assembly lube, or the color of it, that ford uses)

check the trans level...where is it...if its "where it should be" then
id keep an eye on it (could have been overfilled)...toss some cardboard
under the truck at night and watch for drips/leaks, note the color
and location...and either crawl under it to get a better look (remember the
leak could be FORWARD & blowing back, or it could be up higher
than you'd expect)...then take it to your dealer (your still under 3/36k)

even AFTER youre dealer fixes it or tells you theres nothing wrong w/
it i would keep an eye on the dipstick, the underside & more cardboard
until i was positive there were no leaks.

its important (to me at least) that this be documented by yourself
and your dealer and that they RESOLVE it...especially in the
1st 12mo/12k miles of ownership (for buyback/lemon law)

Bush pilot,

Very much appreciate your response. I am beyond the 12mon/12,000 mile first year stuff. I've had this beast almost 1.5 years and have 26,000 miles on it. This is the first "problem" I've had.

As to whether the red stuff is the lube from when the truck was first put together or not, I don't know. I get the oil done at the same place every time and this is the first time they have said anything about fluid being on the underside of the truck. So I am guessing that this is a new flow problem.

I've got a 7:00 am appointment with Mike at Prestige Ford in the morning to get it checked out.

Good news!! Turns out that one of the lines from the cooler to the transmission had a loose fitting. I'm back in business.
