06 f250 making erratic noise

my stock 06 250 with 20k recently has been making "erratic" noise at idle.

sitting at the light after driving 40 min home from work the traditional diesel noise seemed to change tone, (up, down, up...)as if the idle was changing but no change in RPM occured.

this is the 1st time I noticed it, I dont recall hearing this before.

any thoughts?

I know on my 2004, i experienced somewhat of the same thing. it turned out to be a wiring harness recall.

but on a 2006, i would think that problem has long been taken care of.

sorry, i really dont know what to tell ya. have you taken it by the dealer to let them test drive it to see if it replicates the same problem or run a diagnostic to see if there are any codes?

Is it possible your a/c is cycling on and off?

No a/c contribution. It was doing it witht the A/C off.
I have not received any recalls or TSB's from the dealer or Ford.

any other thoughts?

Mine does this aswell, goes quiet and then comes back up. I think mine may have been a bad EGR, EBP sensor or an exaust leak I had. I am getting the leak fixed now so Ill know soon enough.
