I tried doing a search on this mod, but nothing concrete. What's the deal with swapping covers? how much are they?

I see Pure Diesel Power has em'
pure diesel power is 69 bucks (plus shipping)
the kits are the way to go, new bolts and necessary washers
(the old bolts are NOT the proper length).
the cover by itself can be had for as little as 40 bucks, but
youll be left to chase down the 12 bolts
the 08 rear cover has a groove, no gasket needed, just
a good bead of high temp RTV (form a gasket) and stike the
cover on.
follow the MOD link in my sig for an alternative vendor...i got mine
for 49 bucks plus shipping.

The 08 covers are solid cast covers,the 07 and back are stamped steel.

Yeah.......I did this. Basically I just did it for looks!

ill agree w/ you there...the cover does look a lot better than
the black and TAN (surface rust) original unit.

PURCHASED MINE TODAY FOR $35 FROM THE STEALERSHIP. i was thinking about polishing and clearcoating it, but i think that may be to "bling-ish".
