'08 PSD blows up on B99

I received this email from the SF biodiesel coop board. What can I say? :confused:



I thought I would let this forum know that I supposedly blew up my brand new
$55k truck, with just 200 miles on it, running B99. I say supposedly,
because I can't believe it was a fuel problem-but Ford is sticking me with
$17k bill for a new engine (major labor required to remove cab etc..). They
tested the fuel at two labs and said I violated the warranty (which says no
more than B5). I am meeting with the engineer that was flown out from
Dearborn to examine the problem today, so I hope to get some technical
background on this.

I was hoping this group might give me some questions to ask.

I have been running B99 in my other cars for 2 years. I'm a farm kid, and
fairly comfortable around machinery, and have never had any problems with
in. To my understanding, biodiesel has a higher flash point and I can't
understand how one blows up an engine on a vegetable-based fuel. Ford
markets the ultra-low-sulfur engine as the cleanest in the industry. I ran
B100 in my 2004 F25- for 2 years-a similar, high performance PowerStroke.

Any questions or feedback here will help me when I go the mat with these
guys. I think there was another problem with the engine and they are trying
to scapegoat.

blown up is a pretty BROAD term...

gasoline has a higher flashpoint too...but he wouldnt
run that in a diesel now would he...and just because
hes done it in OTHER model years or types of diesels
doesnt mean its OK in the 6.4 siTT.

A similar high performance PS???:confused: The 6.4 is in no way similar to the 6.0...HEUI vs. HPCR with piezo-electric injectors.

Nobody knows what the B99 would do the HPCR system on the 6.4. To my knowledge it's the only one using piezo-electric technology. Yes it's used in Europe but not in any vehicle in the U.S. From what I've seen of the breakdown of the HP pumps on the Dodge HPCR 5.9s fluidity could be a problem.

As far as ford sticking him with the bill....they only warranty B5 because that's all they've tested. They have no control over what people put in their tanks and fuel is going to be sighted more often for warranty denial.:sorry

thing I have the hardest time with, is all the noise being made about alternative and bio-fuels has been going on for years and they only test B5? Come freekin on...

But heck, no.. I wouldn't run B99 in something brand-spankin new without asking somebody first..

I believe I'd even be afraid to run B20 in an '08 PSD. Other manufacturers are also promoting B5, but to me that isn't much. You're still running 95% diesel. They should be testing and recommending B20. JMHO...
