has anyone seen the price on the 2008 tailgate step option. was wondering if it would work on older powerstrokes. thats a cool option, can definetely used that.

'bama installed an 08 tailgate (and lights ?) on his 04 truck...
it was, imo, an expensive undertaking...and i believe the rear
pull out step was, for all intensive purposes, cost prohibitive
the 08 gate will fit..but its not a simple remove and replace...
the lock/pins are different and youll need to PAINT the 08 gate and
buy the emblems (since theyre sold separately).
roughly its about 400 bucks (plus PAINT) for the non step version !
READ this for p/n cost and install details of the NON-STEP version
im sure Stephen will chime in here <and he should since hes the 1st to
have ever done this>...but as i recall the cost of the STEP nearly doubled the
cost of the tail gate.

so 555 on top of the nearly 400 bucks PLUS paint !

plus, on top of the cost of the step mechanism & the handle, the tailgate that holds the step stuff, is completely different than the non-step tailgate carcus.
i would be patient and check out ebay for a step-tailgate that someone may have taken off. you should be able to get it cheaper that way.
the switch over was not all that hard, once the parts man at my local ford dealer and i figured out what parts we would have to order to make it work.
to me it was really fun. i had a good time doin the research and work. now others can reap the knowledge from someone else having done it first.
