Looking at a new 2006 F-250 has 17" chromed steel wheels with OEM rubber. Will the 2002 Super Duty Lariat 16" rims fit on the new truck? I know the hole pattern is same, wondering about offset, rotor clearance, etc.

Anybody done this?

I have new 16" BFG MT's to fit them as well, don't want to get into the 17's yet, have a good warchest of 16" tires for the trucks.

Thanks.

i think because the new trucks from 2005 and up have the newer suspension, there is a diff. in the offset. i believe the 02 wheels and tires would set to far inward.

again, i am pretty sure, but not 100%

i have read some other threads about owners wanting to put the 18's on the
'04's and back, but they would not work.

From what I have researched the 05+ suspension is wider than the 99-04. This required more backspacing in the 05+ wheels. The 99-04 wheels should fit but stick out in this case. I have asked and asked for a true measurement difference on back spacing between the wheels but have never had a reply.

How much wider on 05-06?

Thanks for the quick replies.

Any idea how much wider the front axle is vs. the 99-04's?

I could live with 1" per side, the tires on the rims are only 255/85/16's. They don't stick out near as much as the 285's or bigger.

My main concern is the clearance around the rotors, reminds me of a guy in high school who bought some 15" 8-bolt rims (real cheap) for his 3/4 ton truck, had to grind down the rotors to make them fit. Back in the day...

Any additional info would be appreciated.

i tried to put a 16" wheel from a 2000 F250 on my 2005 and it rubbed the calliper. they won't fit. that made me mad because like you i have many 16" tires laying around that i would have liked to put on my truck.

The backspacing on the 2005 wheels is 6" to 6 1/4" and the backspacing on the 1999 to 2004 vehicles is 4". These are my eyeball guestimates with a tape measure. The pics below show why a 2005 17" rim will not fit on a 2002 F350 4x4. Pic #1 is the factory 16" rim and pic #2 is a 2005 17" rim. Notice the suspension parts resting on wheel. (Red circle). Last pic shows diff between 02 cap (L) and 05 cap (R).

Won't spacers affect hubs / axle / parts longevity? I can get a sweet deal on the rims and tires, and the guy said that he would pay for the spacers just to get rid of the tire / wheels.
