1999 f350 headlight bulbs

I would like to replace the bulbs in my headlights, but find it difficult to remove the bulb holder. The space is small and I seem to get the holder only so far out when it stops. I was turning the holder anti-clockwise and pulling back, but it goes no more than about 1/2" and stays there. I have not pulled the batteries out and was hoping I could get away without doing that!
Does anyone have experience and advice?

I think the last time I changed mine, I just wiggled it around enough and got it out. I think I might have had to take the battery out to get the passenger side bulb back in. If I was you, I'd go ahead and take the batteries out if I still had no luck.
