I have a probelm with my trip computer. I tow a 5th wheel trailer some time and the owner's manual said that can cause inacurate readings on the trip computer. When I'm not pulling the 5vr, the mileage portion seems to work OK, it's the miles remaining that is messed up. I reset the mpg this morning and that worked fine, when I select miles remaining it said I only had 97 miles remaining and my tank it almost full. Is there a fix for this, or do you just have to live with it?
Thanks,

yep it means your getting 10 mpg when the truck says 12-15
but the DTE(distance to Empty) shouldnt be changing that drastically, does your fuel guage go crazy as well?
now if you were pulling and the truck was getting 10 ish and you stopped and refilled withthe engine running it wont reset the DTE until the next key off key on cycle.
so it may be reading or thinking you still have 5-6 gallons left.
however, if you turned off the engine while fueling and it stayed at 97, then you need to have a diagnositc run on the system,

or one more tricky thing,
did you park on a steep incline between the towing and now, so teh tank thinks you only have 5-6 gallons left? if so the dte will not reset until, the truck is turned off, try parking on level ground , turn it off wait a minute and restart and see if you corrects itslef based on actual mpg not overhead readings, like if you normally pull 15 and know you have about 20 gallons left then 20 x15 is roughly 300 miles till empty:D

Thanks Robert. I always take the key out. Habit I have since my wife's Contenental won't reset until the key is removed. I have a 38 gallon tank and I know I'm only down about 5 gallons. Weird....
I didn't see in the owner's manual a separate reset of the miles to go indicator. On the Lincoln, it resets both.
Open to any other ideas before I have the dealer look at it.
Thanks
