I'm "getting the itch" to try to find a good used diesel pickup and trade my 2008 F-150. At my local Ford dealer, Bob Tomes Ford in McKinney, TX, I found a 2005 F-350 6.0 diesel dually with 90,000 miles on it. I'm gonna look at it this weekend. Their website has it listed for $21,980. My biggest question is regarding the engine. I know that I wouldn't touch a 2003 6.0 (too old for me anyway) but is the 2005 6.0 ok with most of the "bugs" eliminated? My 150 now has 103,000 miles on it and I really need a bigger truck to pull my 16 ft trailer carrying the '47 Ford 2N tractor. Here's the link: http://bobtomesford.com/Dallas/For-Sale/Used/Ford/F-350/2005--White-Truck/20853206/

Wayne, that's a nice looking truck, yep, because it looks just like mine. Get a dealer to pull the Oasis Report on the truck.
If pulling your trailer hauling your tractor is the most your going to be doing with it, try to find a SRW, cost is a lot less for fuel and tires.
SRW are a lot easer to park when you have to drive them to town. I love my truck but when we get a smaller trailer I will be going back to a SRW.

Thanks Doug. I'd already thought about the extra width and tires. Plus the long wheelbase would be very long for me (I was okay with the 6.5' bed on my 250). The dealer also has a 2003 250 with 6.0 but that's a little too old for me, plus being the first year for the 6.0, even though it does have "only" 74,501 miles. However I would take a 2002 with 7.3 (similar to the one I had). To be honest, I'd love a 150 with the EcoBoost V6. My son just bought a 2012, and it pulls the trailer w/tractor like it's not even back there, plus he's averaging around 18 mpg with it. It has a 9600 pound towing capacity. Probably won't do anything, but I can always dream.

What you are doing is the ideal application for an F150 EcoBoost. My dad has one and he has grossed up to 22k hauling his 100 hp tractor. While I wouldn't get that carried away, they are no doubt impressive. Wait a little more time if you need to to step UP to an F150 EcoBoost. You can thank me later. LOL

I hear ya. My son has a 2012 EcoBoost and loves it. It pulls the trailer with tractor with no problems. My 4.6 has a 6400 lb towing capacity where his is over 9000. The EcoBoost will probably be the next truck.
