So I have never changed the trans fluid in my 2008. I know what's wrong with me. I'm all over everything else. I dont know why i avoided the trans. i just turned 100K miles. i've owned the truck since it was new and so its life has really not been that hard. anyway i dropped the pan and went to replace the filter and the new motorcraft filter looked completely different. after some looking i discovered my later build 2008 has a pan and filter the same as the 6.0 trucks. I bought my truck in September of 2008 so it was a later build. Im figuring may or june of that year. Anyone heard of this before. I looked and couldnt find anything anywhere.

My 2008 used an ATF filter, 8C3Z 7A098 D, that I bought from Rock Auto, and it fit fine. This truck is manufactured in May, 2008, and is considered a "Job 3" truck. Sorry, I can't comment on the similarity to the 6.0L truck.

Just note that the part numbers change from time to time, but the 7A098 portion should remain the same.

i don't think you get what im saying. i had to use a filter that is listed for the 2004-2007 trucks for my 2008. the filter that was correct for the 2008-2010 will not fit my truck with the pan that came from the factory on my truck.

July 2020, I switched my early 2008 to a 8C3Z 7A194B pan and an FT-180 Motorcraft filter. Riffraff Diesel got the pan to me in 4 days, $48.69. Now I have a filter with true media, not just a screen. Mine has an external filter that was hard to find, 7C3Z-7B155-B, I replaced that too. Took a Lisle 39220 to get the lines loose. (Didn't require the pliers, the release tool worked best bare handed.)
