well i dont see how the 3.55's would affect the newer 6.4 SD's any different than the older trucks.
i have 3.55's and when towing its not a rocket out of the hole, but it pulls great going down the highway, and it gets great mileage (18 empty, 16 with a loaded gooseneck, 14 with the bumper pull enclosed trailer)
the lower geared trucks can usually see the same mileage, but need to keep the speeds lower...4.10 geared trucks will start to see fuel mileage drop after about 55-60, where the 3.55's can go 70-75 before the economy drops off.
it really depends on the driving and towing you want to do.
