Question 4X4 low won't engage.

I have a problem when I turn the selector switch to 4x4 low, no light and no engagement. Any ideas where to start??

The truck is an early 99.

put the gear selector in neutral and try it.

4x4 low with the NV 273 transfer case needs 3 inputs to electronically shift. You need: 1. 0 mph vehicle speed 2. brake on 3. and the shift lever position in park or neutral. If the GEM module doesn't see all three of these inputs, it will not shift. Definately check the fuse first but you may need a scan tool to correctly diagnose it. There is an electric motor on the side of the transfer case that looks kind of like a windshield wiper motor. If you can locate a wiring diagram, you can backprobe the connector with a DVOM to see if the shift motor is getting a signal. Good luck, Gil

Potentialbuyer is right............your transfer case motor might be stripped.

Cranial disengagement, happens to the best of us. Thats a cheap fix too.
