i am a audio fanatic. i have installed systems in other vehicles but have been reserved to do my truck. i see a good amount of people have installed systems in there truck. i know ultimately it comes down to personal preference but what size speaker reproduces the music the best in sound quality. i am looking to install seperates no matter what and im looking at jl audio for the speakers

me personally, i would go with separate tweeters, mid-franges, and subs.

if your're gonna do a big boom boom system. make the tweeters tweet, the mid-ranges' mid, and the woofers woof.

thats the way i had it done in my 1991 Z28.

it had 2 lanzar titanium tweeters and 2 kenwood 4" mids in the front.
2 more of the tweeters and lanzar 6" mids in the sides, and then 4 kicker 12's in the back. sounded awesome, wish i still had that car today.

dont use 2-ways or 3 way speakers.

well i did it. alpine 5x7 type r seperates in the front and 5x7 alpine 2-ways type s with a 65x4 amp. and a single 12" sub with a 500w rockford fosgate. the tweeters are surface mounted on the black plastic cover for the side mirror bolts. it sounds GREAT now i just have to mess with the gain a little bit and im happy. will have pics up. thanks for all the input.

Ugggg, although the 6x9s and 5x7s are loud - there is a certain amount of distortion that comes from the speakers due to the elliptical shape of the cone. The best and clearest reproduction comes from round style cones (5.75s and 6.5s). Now-a-days they have the plates to put in the doors of our Fords in order to have a 4" and tweet int he same hole.

Additionally, you can purchase a set of pods (Q-Forms) for the lower corners...i had these in my Expedition and they screamed with a set of 5.75s and tweets.
