which side should an external trans filter go on? should it be on the hot side before the coolers or the return after the coolers?

wondering because my DIY trans filter(kinda like the dieselsite kit) is on the hot side before the coolers and it gets HOT and i can smell the paint on the filter getting hot. i am afraid of blowing the filter up or even the hoses feeding it or not getting the filter off when ready to change it.

my trans temps this time of year are running between 120 to MAYBE 170 with prode in the test port on the tranny.

i dont want to lose the tranny because of a failed filter.

my trans filter is a WIX trans filter designed for transmissions but i dont know the temp range of the filter but am trying to find this out.

thanks

Rob

If yours is getting so hot maybe the cool side is a better place for it. :dunno

I'll check the location of mine in the morning. I use a Magnefine tranny filter (see link in my sig) and have never had a heat or restriction flow issue with it.
