Auto-Loc hubs ???

Ok, I have a question about the operation of the auto-loc hubs. When I replaced my front bearings on the X, I noticed afterwards that I could not turn one axle (drivers side) and the other one I can turn (it does not lock at the diff or the wheel hub). Now the question is??? Should I be able to turn the axle when not in 4wd or with the hubs manually locked? Isn't that the purpose of the auto-loc hubs?

I re-call that we compared my X to CHP's X and both of his would not turn. 1 of mine turn and not the other. Does that mean that the hubs are not dis-engaging? Bill/everyone what is your opinion on this?

I'm in no way an expert in 4x4 suspension and drivetrain as all I do is keep the hub selector dial maintained and test the 4x4 engagement every 4-6 months.

I use 3 in 1 oil on my seals & soaking stone to keep the selector free especially when in the snowy iced roads of winter.

If the ESOF would not kick on(in auto) then there could be a possible vacuum leak,I'd like to hear from our 4x4 gurus.

you should beable to turn the axle shafts when in 2wd and with the hubs in the auto position. if you can not, one hub, or both are not disengagin....with the hubs locked in the manual position, you shouldn`t beable to turn the axle shafts. if you can, your hubs aren`t locking properly....hope this helps....

Yes you should be able to turn the axle shafts when they are in auto and in 2 wheel drive. A easy way to check it out is to try and spin the front driveline because it is easier to get to than the axle shaft.

OK, that is what I thought. But that would mean that both of CHP's are stuck in the locked position and 1 of mine is stuck in the locked position when it should be un-locked . How do you unlock the hub if it doesn't disengage automatically? Can I just clean and re-pack the bearings? Where does the vacum line come from and connect to the backing plate?

Drive truck backward 20 feet or so. or you can spin the tire backward if it's jacked up!

Speakin from experience here, but Ill make a long story short, changed the passenger side hub, well I had engaged the 4x4 about a week prior, and evidently when I took it for a test drive the front drivers side did not disengage, well I backed up and played with it quite a bit, well when she finally let go BAM!! Sounded like I sheared the friggin drive shaft, well put it back up on the jacks and make sure all was well underneath the truck, everything was good to go, but the rubber hoses definately need replaced..sooooo, thats what Im gonna do!

Get rid of the original hubs...

well that is my advice anyway. My original hubs for my 01 F-250 4x4 don't even turn, plus the right side grinds when I turn the wheels sharply either to the right or left. I even had Ford replace them when they were under warranty. And again they don't turn; I have too use pliers to engage or disengage them. I am going to change mine to "Warn" Brass Style hubs.
