I'm looking at adding some additional back up lights to my truck and was wondering what suggestions(brand, size, etc.) anyone might have out there.

I was leaning towards these Go Recon

Should come in handy when loading the airboat in the dark:dunno

i added one single $14 4" round no name light, and it helped a LOT. it did however, leave me wanting more, so i think i will be upgrading to 2 brighter ones, when i have the cash to spend. whatever you get, make sure its not a spot light, you want a flood pattern. you could have the brightest lights on the market, but if they are a spot light you wont like the lack of lighting on the sides.

the LAST thing you want back there are PROJECTOR (beam) lights...you
want a WIDE FLOOD light...mount 'em as far apart as possible for the
best lighting.

Im happy w/ my KC reverse lights (available all over the place CHEAPER
than kc's list price)...theyre holding up well and have NEVER leaked.

heres a good wiring diagram...add the switch then you can turn the lights
on (w/out being in reverse)...its nice to have some extra light when
hooking up, disconnecting or just checking on a trailer

Bushpilot, question on the KC back-up lights. Am I correct to assume If you wire it according to the diagram you supplied with the optional 6303 switch, the lights will come on either when you put the truck in reverse or any time you want if you just flip the switch? thats what the wiring diagram tells me, but I want to make sure.

Zactly ! the diagram that they show, allows the lights to come on
when the truck is shifted into reverse...OR any time time switch is turned on,
add a 3 position switch and you can prevent them from turning on all together.

nice if youve ever have to work behind the truck (at night) hooking,
un-hooking or unloading (motorcycles/cars) a trailer etc.

I used my own switch, and bought the wiring separately......their
reverse light kit comes w/ the relay & wiring (although its not enough
wiring for a 20+ foot truck)

one of the nicest FUNCTIONAL mods ive done...tinted windows on a
crewcab means youre PROBABLY using your mirrors to back in the driveway
anyway...w/ these lights you can actually SEE when you reverse into
the driveway (or where ever) !

its also nice, for me, towing the car/motorcycle trailer...i can flip the
aux. reverse light switch on...goin' down the dark interstate at night
and check my cargo/load.

jc whitney has the kc reverse lights for 69 bucks -->

oh one other thing....the factory rear bumper has some holes near the
far outside corners (each side)...perfect for bolting aux reverse lights too...

gets you a wider spread than if you were to mount 'em on or near the hitch.

found an OLD photo of mine...you can just see the bolt head at the corner
of the bumper (ive since changed this out, using round headed carriage bolt...
which cant be seen)

that looks like the set-up for me. I had a round tractor flood light that I bought at a Menard's on my 2000 SD but it was self wired and only to the reverse lights. I also tow a trailer with my motorcycle on it and that I was also thinking how nice it would be to hit a switch and check the load. I use the mirrors exclusively for backing with the cap on the truck.
I found it at summit racing as well for $69.00

I added some cheap wide beams to the rear of mine. I bought them cheap...but they really throw out nice wide light pattern. It really does make a big difference.

I welded some tabs to the receiver hitch to mount the lights to.

I still haven't got around to wiring it so I can turn the lights on without having it reverse, but it is on the to-do list.

I have LED in my rear bumper and in my back up bulb in the tail lamp. So I have as bright as you can go with LED. But I think I would be better served witha beam type light for vision.
