Ball Joint Replacement

I have a 2004 F-350 4 X 4 with a Dana Front Axle that needs the ball joints replaced. I took off the wheel and hub assy from the truck without too much difficulty, but I can't get the axle to come out of the hub assy. Has anybody done a ball joint replacement? And how did you get the axle out of the hub and axle housing? I need to get the axle out to get the ball joint nuts out. Thank you.

Thanks guys. I used Tbar's suggestion to get the axle out. It is almost finished now, just a few items to get tomorrow. I will try to get a Wiki write-up some time. I took some pictures.
