Joe, I have never had one and always check my hitch before moving my truck
or pulling the legs up all the way. The price is not bad and I know some of
you could make one in your shop if you wanted to and I would be fine with that also.

kinda of have to be on the fence

when i used my fiver i had a lock plate that secured the pull latch with a keyed master lock. no way it could open unless the lock was cut, it was part of the reese hitch
i guess folks drive off without checking the hitch and this would help them folks.....but i would ask, didnt you check the hitch latch over before pulling up?
i am just odd i guess

but the price is right for a little piece of mind

I have see the locking jaws break.

Wow, that don't sound good, my hitch has the locking jaws and I have been very pleased with this hitch,
but it's almost 20 years old and has been in 3 trucks now. I take it out about every two years and check
it out real good and give it a new paint job.

If you guys would quit your cushy jobs and start driving a semi, you'd know what to do when you hook up to ANY 5'er! LOL

Here's what I do:
Ensure the trailer wheels are chocked at least in the front, preferably front and back.
Ensure the kingpin jaws are lubricated. I use a spray grease that Mystic sells.
Back up to the kingpin until the jaws lock.
Get out and raise the landing gear just enough to get them off the ground so you don't bend them.
Check that the jaws are closed by visual inspection with a flashlight.
Plug in the pigtail.
Get back in, put the truck in drive, engage the trailer brakes manually, and tug against the jaws.

If the jaws are going to malfunction, this is when they'll do it.
