Okay, my truck is running and starting fine, but it is getting colder here in NC (in the low 20's) and when I start the truck in the morning it is pretty rough because of the cold. Well, I decided to actually use the block heater to see how it does. Had it plugged in 2.5 hrs before work and man what a difference! Started and idled nice and smooth. Another plus, I had heat before I got to the end of my street!:sweet

Well, just thought I would post something positive!

use a timer, (make sure its a good 'un)...set it to turn on not more than
3hrs before you leave for work in the mornings.

remember the block heaters draw about 1100w

Once a year someone reminds the members to remember to unplug the block heater cord prior to driving away. OK, I'm done. :D

Are you suggesting a timer because it saves on your electric bill? thats the only reason i see for a timer.

define "saves"....honestly the block heater does not need
to be on more than 3hrs before you intend to start the truck...

so the savings can be "optained" from various points....wear and
tear on the heater & a reduction in electric use.

I made a "Danger Tag" to hang on the steering wheel when the cord is plugged in (my recepticle is in the front bumper) to remind the driver to unplug the cord. Cheers!
