164k miles is better than the average for 4R100 transmissions but you got good miles out of it

To hear about it. Mine has over 207k mi thats 331k km and it's original, It may be a time bomb also. About 1 month there was a builder in Seatle addvertising HD 4r100 for IIRC $1995 on craigslist.org. Since you are or the island thats just a ferry away. I know you are limited on the isle. good luck

Good luck with your rebuilt, what is there price for a good one.
Looks like they have a good warranty.

The HD trans is $3500 with torque Converter and the Factory spec rebuild is $2500. The price is very reasonable compared to some of the other options available up here($5000)

Well I finaly heard from the Transmission shop. They found that for the most part the torque converter and transmission internals were good .... except for the broken main shaft! Apparently it sheared clean off, very little shrapnel or anything. They are going to inspect the rest of the workings and build it up strong.
