I hope this will be a simple one, brake light on dash is staying on for a long time now. It used to go off within a min or two. Parking brake is off, brake fl is fine , what is left? Could it be the vac pump on the motor? Brakes seem to be working fine. Any thoughts would be helpfull. 97 F 350 4x4 7.3 Thanks, Rick

Dang...hummm 97 has abs on the rear...but i THOUGHT there was
a sep. light for abs...do you have DRL's on that truck ?

maybe the brake fluid switch (float) is bad ?

Well the light either means fluid is low or e brake is on. If fluid is full and e brake is all the way up, then it is probably sensors. There is a push button switch that is on the e brake pedal. It could be stuck or out of adjustment. Also the low fluid sensor could be bad.

DRL's (daytime running lights) on your truck (if equiped)
are tied to the parking brake switch.

on DRL's equiped cars/trucks the headlights turn off when the
parking brake is set.

If you HAVE DRL's and the parking brake light is on, Im curious
to know if the headlights are on or off...if the lights are off then
id start looking at the parking brake switch...if your lights are ON
then id look at the master cyl. fluid level float/switch.

The 94-97's werent equipped with DRL's that I am aware of. Have you checked the switch that the parking brake contacts?

ok so the issue is one of two things its either the fluid level/float/switch
or the parking brake switch, those are the only things that will activate
the dash e-brake light.

i dont know which way the fluid level float switch activates (open = light
on OR closed = light on)...personally id try shorting the fluid level/switch
located on the master cyl. & see if that shuts the light off...but again
im assuming the light is turned ON by an open circuit...so im HOPFUL that
shorting or closing the circuit/switch will turn the light off & prove the
float/switch is defective).
