I can tell you from experience that you can pull it out, pressure wash it, let it dry and drop it back in with no worries. The used car dealers do it all the time around here on all kinds of vehicles.
Invest in some good quality floor liners like Husky Liners. Worth every penny. I bought a set in 91 for a new Z-71. I used them for years in various newer trucks and a GMC Suburban. Bought my '01 PS and they say in my building. A friend bought an 88 GMC K-1500 5 years ago. Gave him my Husky Liners and some tow hooks. Still using both.
