Will a cat delete pipe work on an OE system. I really have no desire to pony up $450 for a full system with the cat and muff delete pipes. So I am thinking to just replace the cat with the test pipe, since the cat is the biggest power hog / heat builder.

That's basically what I did, except I would recommend going ahead and doing the down pipe at the same time. If you go aluminized iinstead of stainless, you can get a down pipe/ cat delete from DPPI for $170 plus shipping. I did install the walker big truck muffler and add a stainless tip later, but all in all, my exhaust is pretty cheap, been really happy with it :sweet

the dppi (mbrp) cat delete pipe will fit...not CUTTING required..
remove two bolts (where the cat bolts @ the front) and a clamp
(at the rear of the cat).

shouldnt take more than about 15-20 min your 1st time....

if youre thinking of changing the exhaust i wouldnt go w/ anything
LESS than whats on the truck from the factory...the factory exhaust
system is stainless...

have to agree
the mbrp cat test pipe bolts right in,
made a world of difference in the mpg and seat of pants spool up.
next big restictor is the stock muffler.
