CCV Modification for 7.3L

hello all ... What is the purpose of this mode is it performance or to keep things clean? or both... What is the purpose of the CCV... remeber Im green:D

any help would be great

All engines need to have a CCV (crank case vent) to keep the inside of the engine from over pressurizing. On our engines from the factory, the ccv is routed into the air intake so the oil vapors will be burned up during combustion. Only problem is the ccv is routed into the intake before the turbo, so all that oil vapor goes through the turbo, piping, and intercooler. It also seeps into the intercooler boots which causes them to blow off the pipes easier. There are two ways to do the CCV mod. You can vent the ccv gasses to the atmosphere, or you can run them through a filter that catches the oil, and them return the gasses back into the intake. No real performance gains with this mod, but it will help keep things a little cleaned around the intercooler boots.

If you choose to route to atmosphere can you use a oil catch can as the filter and then back to the intake? or do you need a finer filter to do the job.

CCV mod

There's more benefit than you think, I guess if it's done right. I was at the friendly Ford dealer to pick mine up on warranty, and there certified diesel tech who was about 20 told me my turbo was going to fail early because of the CCV mod. He said thats how the turbo get's oiled. I put a droop in the line to trap any moisture then over behind the master cyl. then tied the hose to the frame harness. Then I crossed over at the rear trans mount, welded a fitting into the exhaust at a 45. There you go. Havn't seen a dyno run with a diesel but before and after on a gas engine is 15hp.

x2. that service tech suffers from rectal cranial inversion...thats got to be the biggest load of crap ive ever seen.

i did almost the same thing but i used an air check valve Motorcraft CX1482 CX-1482 Air Check Valve 88-95 V8-351: eBay Motors (item 250626727990 end time Jul-02-10 16:59:14 PDT) like this that i robbed off of an escort motor that was laying around and it works great, has a slight scavanging effect ;tu

so im assuming the air check valve will prevent any exhaust gasses from going back into the intake?

I just ran mine under the cab to the PVC catch can then out to the rear of the truck.
