coolant filter thoughts

I've been thinking about adding a coolant filter for a while now, especially after seeing some of the pictures that were taken of the used filters.

Most of the kits look to be fairly simple, and that got me to thinking. I have a remote oil filter kit that I had bought for my play toy truck but never did use. It is made to use the FL-1A or equivilant oil filter. Does anyone have a part number for a coolant filter that would be compatable with this mount?

I was getting ready to ask the same thing...

On my early '99 I'm thinking of installing this:

http://www.dieselsite.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=8

and then later adding the oil bypass filter, the transmission bypass filter and finally the fuel filter / water seperator all from the same site.

Maybe overkill for a truck that doesn't get worked hard?

I'm open to suggestions and I'm not trying to hi-jack the thread.

Im using the equiv. to that same bypass coolant filter on my 04 6.0L
i plugged the 1st filter in less than 1500mi (you can tell its plugged
w/ crap when the filter is cool to the touch...and trust me youll know
the diff between hot and cool ;)

Im happy w/ the dieselsite coolant filter kit...the baldwin filters were
kinda pricey...atleast compared to the equiv. filter as purchased
from fleetfilter.com

Who's Bob?

I'm interested in any sources out there. Dieselsite.com seemed to be about the only place I found that offered the coolant, trans, oil, and fuel filters that looked tailor made for my truck.

With my limited experience I need to keep things as simple as possible when it comes to the installation.

Bob is dieselsite.

I got his coolant filter setup to and had to hack up my stock airbox becuase the filter body was rubbing the upper radiator hose. So I had to modify the holes on the bracket and notch the airbox to rotate the bracket so it wouldn't rub the hose.

If you will ever possibly run higher percentage of biodiesel, DON'T use the Dahl fuel filter he sells. It's NOT bio compatible with anything over B20 according to Baldwin technical assistance. The adhesives used on the filter and the seals used throughout the assembly are not compatible and will be broken down by higher concentrations. Don't even try to use the heated version with high concentrations, the epoxy will be compromised!

fwiw...this is NOT the case w/ the 6.0L engines...the filter mounts
on the passenger side of the radiator...no rubbing.

Regarding Fuel Filter

I guess I'm in a unique situation when it comes to a fuel filter. I don't run bio-diesel, rather I run a Waste Vegetable Oil blend. Simply put, used cooking oil that has been filtered and then thinned out with mostly kerosene.

Whatever I use as a filter, it has to be compatible with the WVO fuel.

The only reason I got to thinking about this was that in doing some reading I came across a post where a PSD owner never got a WATER IN FUEL light from his stock filter, yet after installing a Dahl water seperating filter he now drains out a few ounces of water every couple of months.

I'm just looking for the most protection possible:confused:
