The last time I went in for my DOT physical and the last time I renewed my drivers license they told me I needed to see about getting some glasses. A couple of weeks ago I went in to the eye doc and she told me I was on the legal limit. I ordered up some glasses and have been wearing them for 6 days. They seem to help my vision while driving but the rest of the time they have me all screwed up. Doors look crooked, computer looks blurry, the ground is sloping when it isn't and many other funny looking things. I figured that my eyes needed to get use to the new way things look but it has been 6 days and I still can't see straight. I just went out to the shop without my glasses and could not hardly see the way so now without them I am blind but with them things are not as they appear to be. Is this normal and things will improve or do I need to return to the doctor? I personally thought my vision was just fine without the glasses but I have to get a new dot physical by July and didn't want to flunk.

That is normal. I had the same problem. I really only wear my glasses to drive at night. I had the same problem and it seemed like it took be forever to get used to them. Now I can put them on or take them off whenever I want and it doesn't bother me a bit. I bet it took me a month to get used to them.

OK thanks I will give them some more time to straighten out. I do notice that my eyes don't hurt like they use too and they are much less sensitive to light. I use to wear sunglasses all the time now I don't need too.

My father inlaw is an optometrist. I'll ask him for you to be sure but that is my experience.

When I took my DOT in California back in 2000 they said contacts are fine, much easier then wearing glasses especially when you have to see 180 degrees at one time.

Isn't the maintenance on contacts a pain? I am always in dusty conditions and so it seems like I always have dirt in my eyes. I am finding that cleaning my glasses all the time is a pain but I thought contacts were more of a pain? Are they a better way to go?

Another problem with contacts is it takes three people to hold my eyes open just to put in a drop of visine. I think it stems back about 15 years ago when I had a piece of hot welding slag land in my eye. I think it would take a crew of four to hold my eye open long enough to get a contact in there. My eyes just don't like foreign things going in them..

At first they are a little touchy but after a few months they are simple to R&R,the dusty conditions I'll wear Gargoyles or safety glasses which help greatly keeping the grit out of your eyes.

I'd actually like to get another pair of sunglasses for reading at home but when out on the road the contacts are a must.

The plus is our medical insurance covers eye exams, contacts, cleaning solution and eye drops :sweet

My medical paid for my exam and the glasses but I think they have a yearly maximum they will pay for contacts. I drive up north where 80% of the road is dirt. Even with the windows up and the ac on my eyes get full of dirt by the time I make the 1016 mile trip. If I have to wear safety glasses I might as well wear corrective glasses. I will check into the contacts if these darn glasses don't start seeing straight soon though..

I have been wearing contacts for over 20 years and they have come a long way. Most of the new ones you can leave in for a month at a time, just put in a couple drops in the morning and your ready to go. They are tricky at first and you have to remember they are in there if you have to rub your eyes too hard but after a while its no big deal.

I've been in contacts for about 15 years and even in dusty conditions I can't say it really bothers me. wost case is that you carry some eye drops to moisten your eyes and wash out the dust.

Your glasses it does take some getting used to and it will come in time. When you go w/o your glasses you are seeing the same as you were before just now you have a reference for comparision.

I wore glasses for about 2 years before getting contacts and now I refuse to drive especially @ night w/ my glasses unless it's an emergancy b/c the lack of peripherial vision focus and the glares off of the lenses and I even have the non glare coating on mine.
