OK, here goes. Some jerk decided to use my truck door to play tic, tac, toe! Can anyone tell me the best way to make these scratches disappear? I know having the whole door painted would be an option but I thought someone out there could share some trade secrets on this. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

are the scratches all the way to the metal?? ya know, thru the clear coat and the base coat?

if so, painting would be the only option. if it is only a light scratch that may just be barely thru the clear coat, some polishes will help take it away, but there will always be some evidence of a scratch there.

get your paint code ready

How deep is the scratch ? if its thru the clear coat (gently drag your
finger nail across it...does it catch ?) theres little that can be done...

Some one key'd my truck...front to rear...both sides...the cops caught
'em & he paid (told me it was an accident)...

the clear coat is VERY thin...sanding it or even heavy buffing will quickly
remove or burn thru the clear coat and could get into the paint and primer
QUICKLY.

Only recently has it been possible to "blend" clear coats and the process is
so new im not sure id trust anyone to do it.

if you blend a clear coat, you would have to wet sand i believe and then polish, but im with you bush, i wouldnt do it.

yup and its a "new" process thats only been possible the last couple of
years...there is an even NEW-er method that supposedly allows painters
to combine clear & color (for blending) in one step...but even the guys
i know that do this for a living arent interested in trying it out.

I've got a couple good scratches on both doors that require paint blending. They have to partially paint to the front fender and rear doors to make it look right.

I have confidence it'll be done right:sweet

The painters that paint some of my trucks blend clear quite often. They have been using heavy cut polish by 3M and buffing it out with a 7" air sander/polisher. If it is to the metal there is no hope.

If you really just want to cover it up so it doesn't rust then put some soda on a rag, and press it into the scratch. Wipe clean around the gash and let it dry. Then put some TOUCHUP paint on it. Let it dry, buff or rub it and see if you like that. Sure it'll be noticeable (beats the hell out of a rust spot!) but it will get you by if you don't want to pay some benji's for new paint.
