My 1997 Superduty has a switch or senser mounted on top of the (5.13) rear end when viewed from the front of the truck. Can anyone tell me what this device does?
Also on the driver side of the rear end there is some type of linkage and I have no idea what this does or how it is used. What is the purpose of this??

Last question (for now) how do you remove all of the rust (or the majority) on the undercarriage, drive train, etc.?

Thanks in advance and more questions to follow.

You are looking at the Speed Sensor. This tells the speedometer and ABS who fast you are going. If your Speedo stops working, this is the problem. I can't tell what the first picture is. Hard work gets rid of the rust.

the first pic is a proportioning valve.when loaded the linkages move and give more pressure to the rea breaks.when unloaded the valve closes and decreases the pressure to the rear brakes.it can be bypassed, they dont work anyways.
